*UPDATED* this is the worst thing that ever happened to me***UPDATED FROM 5 STARS TO 1 STAR** and I would give 0 stars if I could. We got about 2 good months use of this until it burned out. Like literally, smoking and melting plastic type of burning out. I'm glad it didn't start my house on fire. It's under warranty so I started the return process only to find out that I'll still need to pay shipping. Shipping on a massive heavy blanket like this will cost me like half of what I paid for the blanket to begin. It's not my fault this product is so faulty and is a fire hazard! Why should I pay shipping???This blanket saved my life! Moved from a warmer climate to the snowy tundra, needless to say- I use this constantly. The only downside is it calls my name during the day when I should be being productive instead of getting cozy on level 7. I've also washed it 3 times, it held up well.
1Definitely worth it!The sage green was prettier than I expected (I bought it because it was the least expensive) and it is incredibly soft! Heavy enough to stay evenly distributed on the bed, but it doesn't suffocate you. Having two controls that operate each side of the blanket independently is great because my hubby likes a warmer bed than I do (we got the queen size) it's well worth the money to not get into an ice cold bed. It seems to heat evenly so far too!Edit: the auto off doesn t seem to work though
5Controller fried as soon as I plugged it in,I got the blanket, plugged it in and immediately started smelling electrical smoke. The controller is fried. I'm hoping to hear from Biddeford and that they'll replace the wire and controller so I can start over. This sounds like something unusual. I only read one other review that had something like this happen. I don't see another way to contact them other than thru this review process.
1Stopped working after a few monthsUpdate!......After just a FEW months one side of heat went out THEN not even 2 days later the whole blanket stopped working! Piece of crap! These blankets are too expensive for only a few months worth of heat! VERY disappointed of this product. PLZ take my advice! Go with a different brand!! I am now passed the time to return my product but lesson learned! Plz don t buy only if you would like a blanket that only works a few months. So upset and disappointed! This was a replacement for my blanket that went out. I read all product reviews for this item and I am very happy with this blanket. It is so super soft. You don t feel many wires, and your body just melts with the softness to this. It warms up very fast and controls for this blanket are very classy. I am ordering my son one today. Happy with my purchase.
1There are better quality blankets out there. This is my fourth biddeford heated blanket purchase within 2 years. We will be switching to another brand. They are not built for longevity. Two of our blankets have burned out. This one does not stay connected very well. My son fell asleep watching a movie. It melted our remote control.
2Not worth the priceHad King size for about 3 weeks when right side started going in & out. One night it would work, then next it wouldn t. Sometimes it would show an E for error, others it wouldn t even turn on. That went on for about 6 weeks or so, into the first half of December. Then it went out completely. In the middle of March-just before it s been 6 months, the other side started going in & out. It ll be interesting to see if history repeats itself. Also, at no time did it ever heat quickly . We would turn it on an hour or more before bed time & still not be very warm.I thought when I purchased it that it was a decent price, not super great, it was comparable to others. However, in hindsight, that is the most expensive blanket Ive ever purchased. 21 days of full use for $100.The one pro. It is very soft on both sides. But I could ve found something super soft for less money, if soft is what I was after.
1Pay attention to the 1-star reviews!I was looking for a reasonably priced electric blanket to replace a Sunbeam that we had. I looked at the reviews, saw that a few people had immediate trouble with the electronics, but most were good. I should not have taken the chance. Within ONE HOUR of the blanket being plugged in, the display stopped working. We unplugged it and the plug had a burnt smell. Apparently the electronics fried immediately. I did see other reviewers had the same issue - such a pain. The only plus is the return process seems easy - UPS will pickup.
1Not so warm after all.Although it was incredibly warm and soft I only hot to enjoy those things for one night, as the day after it stopped working and only gave me an error sign on the controller. Seems I should have heeded the bad reviews from others about this product, and have learned my lesson. Seems that both Biddeford and Sunbeam have the same problems, lack of quality. Lessons learned.
1So far it's okay, but I'm proceeding with cautionThere are good points and bad points about this heated blanket. First, I love the softness of both sides of the blanket.I found that I only have to set it on the mid-range (5) to pre-warm it for 15 minutes before I get into bed, and I can either turn the blanket down to 2 or off and I'm fine. In fact I have found that the Sherpa is a very warm, lightweight blanket without the power turned on.Prior to purchase, I read reviews that said they left the blank pre-heat for a long time and it never got warm. Well, it doesn't feel warm to the touch, but just get under it and you will find that it is very cozy. The control unit is very lightweight and you have to hold it with one hand to change the setting. I solved that problem by permanently affixing it to the center of my headboard with just a 1" strip of Velcro. The unit is always at the same spot, and I can just lie in bed and touch the control with one finger to change the setting. The cover is a little "puckery" both along the edges and even over the top, so if you plan to use it without a cover over it, you might be disappointed. My biggest concern is that I have read several very bad reviews on another website that were consistent in describing two issues: One is that the heating unit (where the electrical cord attaches to the blanket) gets too hot and the plastic melts (they showed photos so it's real) and the other is a terrible lack of response from Beddeford on these warranty issues. I haven't experienced this yet, but I've only had the blanket for a month, and I don't leave the blanket on all night. If I had read these reviews before ordering, I would not have ordered, so I suggest that you do a search in your browser to find other reviews and decide for yourself.
3Soft, cozy and warm! This arrived after I left to go see my daughter in TN. My husband tried it out first and raved about it after using it on the bed as soon as it arrived. I waited until now to review it because I wanted to see how it performed. We have a king size bed and it hangs over the side about 2-3". The heating wire covers the top of the king size bed and stays in place. We haven't constantly had to pull it up stretching the heating wires while making the bed, & I'm hoping this feature will make it last longer than one year like the other two we've purchased in the past couple of years! It's soft as can be and works perfectly! Both of use keep ours on 7 and it really keeps us warm. We love the dual controls! Sleek, and easy to use! The tan color is more like a gold shimmer, and sherpa underneath is so soft and cozy. We love it! I will post again, if it doesn't last long. For now, we love it! It's well worth the price, and we've paid more for another named brand Electric Blankets that stopped working within a year. Keeping our fingers crossed hoping that this one will last for years to come!
