Revision and downgradeAfter a couple of weeks daily use, I like this unit. First off its a very nice shape and the stainless looks great. It takes about 6 1/2 minutes to boil the full 1.2 liters. The automatic off switch is in the lid, so by leaving the lid open with the power on it will keep boiling up steam as long as it holds water. The thing I really like, the handle stays cool and provides a good grip at all times. This is a great safety feature and my reason for adding the 5th star. The kettle pours well from top to bottom. It is a great convenience to have in my mud room.I have read most of the reviews and know that not everyone has been satisfied. My satisfaction is conditioned on an expectation of reasonably long service life for the price.Update: After just shy of two months, I used it today and the plastic at the bottom of the kettle melted through, rendering the unit unserviceable. A wire can be seen embedded in the melted plastic. I don't think just under two months is a reasonable service life. My recommendation now is to avoid. 1Very Nice Simple Easy to Use KettleWorks very well and quick. I used to boil water for my tea in the microwave, but it just didn't feel right using a mw to just heat water, so I got this. When using the mw it would take a long time, and the cup would get so hot I couldn't touch it. With this kettle the water heats up faster, and after I pour, the tea cup handle doesn't get super hot. It would take forever for the mw heated cup to cool down, so it's nice to have the water cool down quicker and naturally just in time for my steeped tea to be drinkable. The outside of the kettle does get a little too hot to touch, but it has a plastic handle and plastic that runs down the kettle inside the handle, so it's not a problem. Tried cleaning many times, it didn't help. 1Great!I too was looking for a non-plastic kettle to make tea at the office. I was concerned by some of the reviews that mention the carcinogen warnings on the box, but other kettles in this price range were all plastic so I thought I'd try this one.The inside of the pot is all metal. The lid is plastic, but unless you fill the pot all the way to the top (which you shouldn't do anyway, per instructions) it is a non issue. Also, the lid + handle appear to be made of polypropylene, which does not contain BPA. As some other reviewers have noted, the warning about cancer-causing chemicals likely refers to the plasticizers used to make the electric cord flexible and are present pretty much in all appliances.The pot boils a liter of water in about 8 minutes. I've had it for over 6 months now and it works great. Also, it is really nice that the base is detachable so you can pour without dragging a cord around or having to unplug the unit. The inside is easy to clean. You can roll the excess cord under the base, to minimize clutter on your counter. It automatically shuts off once the water boils so no safety concerns. Highly recommended. 5DO NOT BUY - It might be cute but it's a fire hazard!Must agree with others, this kettle IS A FIRE HAZARD. After 3 months of regular use this kettle began to melt. A spot on the bottom melted exposing a black wrapped wire that is melting spots on the base each time it is used. Until this happened the little kettle was great But now it has become a stinky hazard.I contacted the company, thinking it was still under warranty. It is, but in order to get a replacement I must pay shipping both ways. It's a $20 kettle and shipping would cost more than it is worth. They asked me to send photos and then wrote back saying it was very unusual--I must have placed the kettle near another heat source to have caused the burn. No so!I'm in the market for another, smallish tea kettle, but won't be buying anything from this manufacturer. 1Fantastic kettle for hot water FAST!!! - See UPDATE 11/28/16I don't do a lot of reviews but I had to with this! This is just what I have been looking for! Heats water up fast, no plastic smell and works great!! I have been using this now for over a month and use it 2-3 times a day. No issues and it works great!! For the price, I just might buy a second one to have as a back-up unit or to put one in the garage. Nice item!!UPDATE: 11/28/16Went to make a cup of tea this morning at the pot was kind of stuck to the base. It appears that there is a spot on the bottom of the pot that is melting and the plastic is getting on the base and making it stick together. I tried another cup later in the morning and the same thing. There is a soft spot on the bottom of the pot that was hot and melted. I can see this being thrown out very soon! What a disappointment! 5Do I have to be IN California to get the cancer?Like many others I was intimidated by the scary California cancer warning label on the box. I'm glad it didn't stop me from buying it. I'm a US Soldier and am deployed right now. My guys and I use the kettle everyday from making soft boiled eggs, Ramon noodles, or most of all, heating water for a good cup of herbal tea. I guess it is made with something that might give you cancer though, so I have to give it 4 out of 5 stars. 4I have owned several similar kettles and have never seen anything like this before in my lifeWarning!!! Do not buy this kettle. Extreme fire hazard. I purchased this kettle in December 2015. The internal electrical or heating elements in the base of kettle are melting through to the outside. Obviously this model needs a recall before someone's house burns down! 1changed everythingMy life was an empty vessel needing to be filled with boiling hot water. For a brief time I thought of ending it all,but along comes the Brentwood 1.2 litre Stainless , I repeat STAINLESS, steel tea kettle. Now I am filled to the brim with hot liquid any time I want and the sport of trying to stain this kettle has become a family obsession! So you may want to spend the rest of your life in cold water with a stained kettle to keep you company as you complain about the temperature or you can order the Brentwood 1.2 litre STAINREJECTING , make my life a boiling success, steel kettle. It only cost money , not your faith, not the blood of children mere money. The choice is yours ....but we both know what you are going to do. 5MELTING PLASTIC! DANGER!After only 3 months of use, the coil is starting to melt through the bottom of the plastic on the kettle (see red circle in photo).This is a) an extreme fire and safety hazard since the plastic melts with each useb) when you attempt to pick up the kettle from the base, the melted plastic sticks, and I've spilled hot water all over myself since the cord yanks on the kettle when pouring.Water is also coming out of the 'seam' between the spout and the main body of the kettle. Even pouring slowly, some water still drips along the kettle and onto the counter/floor.NOT WORTH THE MONEY SAVED! Terrible product design! Go with a slightly more expensive model and you won't regret it.UPDATE: After several months, I FINALLY heard back from Brentwood regarding the defective unit. They wanted me to pay for return shipping so they could verify that it was indeed faulty. I already threw the device out thinking this would never be resolved, and now they are unwilling to compensate me or provide a replacement. Overall, the fact they took 3 months to return my messages is disappointing, and I'm not sure I'd trust a replacement product after seeing how poorly the first one performed. DON'T BUY BRENTWOOD! Poor customer service, crummy products 1
