Didn't last :(I bought this in July 2015. It was perfect and adorable, but it started rusting a little within a few months. I was able to scrub it off for a while, but it gets rusty every time I wash it now.
1Gorgeous colander, but will eventually rustGorgeous colander- the color is as pictured, and the size is great. This colander will easily hold 2 pounds of pasta. I've had 3 or 4 of these over the last 8.5 years. I've had to replace them because the areas where the top (bowl) and bottom (stand) pieces meet and the inside of the stand eventually rust unless I obsessively dry them after washing. I keep buying them, though, because they're so pretty. Bottom line: buy this to enjoy for 2-4 years, dry it carefully, and enjoy its beauty, but expect to replace it in a few years.
4Beauty Is As Beauty DoesI had purchased this lovely colander in August of 2012. I could not resist the color, despite some rather negative reviews. I wish I made note of when the first signs of damage occurred but I did not. However, today, January 15, 2014, I decided it was time to look for a replacement. The first damage I noted was that the bottom of the base developed large patches of an orangy color which I attributed to rust. Today I could not help noticing a large amount of the covering peeling away in the center of the colander and so I decided it was time to replace it with a plastic one that would not rust. I paid just under $24 and I still figure it was worth it as the yellow color was very lovely in my stainless-steel sink. What I will purchase next is a large, plastic one of either purple or orange color which will look just as lovely but without the disadvantages of a metal structure. I gave it three stars because I rated it as average in performance and longevity, and still consider it a good purchase, even if it did not last as long as I had hoped it would.
3It was good. It is cuteIt was good. It is cute. A year later it was rusting through the paint around the seams and two years later the paint on the main piece is bubbling up and rusting.
2Discolors within a couple yearsI bought the 5 quart colander in 2010 in yellow. Just 7 years later, and I've carefully and promptly cleaned it every time after use, it is very discolored and rusty. The discoloring started a couple years after owning it. A picture tells a thousand words, so here is how it looks today. I will not be buying from Calypso Basics again.
1CRUSHEDI received my 5 quart colander and it was damaged. The bottom on one side was crushed into the colander cracking the enamel on the inside. It was so smashed in that it would not even sit flat on the counter top. I requested a return label and a replacement. I received authorization for return, had to pay another $9.00 ( which means I'm $18.00 into the shipping). I received an email that I would be given credit for my $23.99 for the colander. I have searched how to get it replaced to no avail. Now I'm out $18.00 in shipping and nothing to show for it. Other than the item being damaged, it appeared to be nice. Would have been nice to have been able to have one and use it..........
1Fine ProductVery handsome. We got it to serve as a fruit holder. The holes allow air circulation and they are small enough that the fruit does not sag through them and bruise as it ripens. It looks great on our counter. The color is a very nice rich indigo. BTW, if you're wondering how the bowl will fit onto your counter, it's is 11" across the top (12.5" if you include the handles) and 6.5" high from bottom of the base to the rim.
5Please read commentsToday's date is October 28th 2019.I purchased this on February 17, 2013.At first when I received this I was so happy with the product. It seems so pretty and it was sturdy and supposedly made out of good material. Overtime I noticed that the paint was puckering but I did not know to what extent I had not idel what it would end up being. At first I only noticed that the paint around the holes in the bottom puckering. Due to some personal issues I had to put the item into storage. It was a regular storage it was not waterlogged or anyting. When I got this out of storage I noticed a couple of things. The paint had peeled completely off. The metal is not a food safe typ metal. It is not stainless steel. Because if it was I would just remove the original enamel. What was left showing was a some kind of metal that has started rusting and corroding. I had planned to keep it and try to recoat it but the more I look into food safe paint I it being very expensive for food safe enamel. I purchased it so I can get something that will last for a very long time. However I barely got maybe two years of use out of this thing; if that.
1sadly disappointedoh it was lovely. but after over 5 months of use, think it is a piece of crap. after using it just a few times to strain pasta, the color started fading in weird streaky patterns. now the color is marbled, blue and lighter blue. the finish is clearly not stable. i only hope i am not poisoning myself, and wonder if i should just throw it out. also, noticed today that the finish is wearing off near the base, and rust is forming. considering i hand wash it and dry it immediately after each use, this is pretty pathetic.
1Rusts after 5 monthsBought this 5 months ago. Washed it yesterday and noticed the enamel has already cracked around the base. It is beginning to rust. I ve never washed this item in the dishwasher or allowed it to soak in the sink. I haven t even used it that much. Either mine is defective, or the quality is subpar. Very disappointed.
