It will boil 3 gallons of water, but it takes over an hour. If you are planning on using this in a water heater you should already know what you need. Make sure your heater uses 240v and not 120v.I used this for a project making a sous vide water bath. I won't bore you with the irrelevant details, but I used a screw-in flange for water heaters to attach this heating element to the project bath. The gasket was effective in preventing leaks, but I went ahead and used caulk for aditional waterproofing.This element is powerful enough to heat 5 gallons to boiling in about 30 mins, so think of it as a small project heater, or plan on a well insulated tank with enough time to let the heater work.Feel free to leave any questions you have in the comments section.
