Customer Reviews

Perfect little kitchen timerThis is a perfect little kitchen timer. It does everything it needs to with no fuss. The maximum time is about 10 hours (technically, 9 hours, 99 minutes, and 99 seconds) and you can enter seconds as well. The best feature is the keypad. No fumbling around with arrows. Just type in the time and hit start. The buttons are easy to press, too. They don't take much force, so you can easily press them with one finger while it's stuck to the fridge without knocking it off.For mounting, it has a magnet, a clip, and the clip can act as a stand, so you can stick it almost anywhere. The alarm is loud, but not obnoxiously loud. It automatically stops beeping after 1 minute (but does keep counting). If you prefer, you can set it to vibrate mode with a switch on the back and clip it on your belt like a pager (the "2 alarm" feature). If you do this, the keypress beeps also become little pulses, so there is no beeping at all. It can't beep and vibrate at the same time.It can count down or up (and automatically continues counting up after the timer hits zero). When you stop it after the alarm goes off, it automatically resets to the previous start time. If you stop it before time runs out, it just pauses until you hit the start/stop button again. It has pretty big digits (about 3/4 inch tall). I don't have any trouble reading it from across the room. No backlight, but it's perfectly readable unless you're in the dark.It doesn't have a built-in clock, but most kitchens have a microwave or oven with that. One caveat: the title says "2 alarm." This doesn't mean that you can set two timers simultaneously. It only means you can pick between a beeping and a vibrating alarm. If that is a deal breaker for you, then look at the "OXO Good Grips Triple Timer" (my fiancee owns that one). It has 3 timers and a clock, and it's very good, but not as dead simple to use as this one.Overall, if you need a simple kitchen timer that does its job and does it well, get this. I've had no issues with it whatsoever. 5Easy to use, easy to read - one glitchThis is a simple and highly legible timer, well-designed in Oregon and made in China. Use is straightforward and settings are simple. The user can choose between beep and vibrate via a slider switch. An oddity: Two large buttons on the front, according to the instructions, are shown as CLEAR and START/STOP ... but as delivered, on my timer the buttons are both labeled CLEAR. The buttons, however, do function per the instructions - just be aware that the second CLEAR is actually START/STOP ! 5Malfunctions frequently, true junk.I bought this timer a few months ago and I liked the numeric keypad and overall external design. However, it soon began to malfunction. Recently I was running water in a sink and set the timer to remind myself to come back and turn it off, but the timer never chimed and I had a huge flood that went through the kitchen floor into the basement. I was exceedingly peeved, obviously, and had a lot of repair work to do. I wondered if this might be a case of user error, so I did not toss the timer out, and instead I tested it a couple more times on less risky projects. The battery was new and in good shape, and display was clear and bright, so no battery problem. Anyway, I set the timer and watched to see what would happen. The timer stopped at the appointed time, but there was no sound coming from it, which is why I never knew I had a flooding sink. After a few seconds, it beeped very weakly, interestingly, but it was barely audible. This timer is a huge, huge piece of junk. If you have this timer and you notice that when you press the keypads the beeps (due to pressing keypad) sound kind of weak, and shaky, beware--this timer will malfunction and whatever project you need it for will likely end up in disaster at some point. I am seriously not happy. I had to go out and buy a new timer, and obviously I bought a different brand and different model. Beware because sometimes you'll see the same model but with different brand names on the timer. Just don't buy it. The company who makes it should be ashamed. 1Used Every DayI had 2 timers similar to these, but made from white plastic, that I had purchased at Radio Shack, probably 10 years ago. They didn't have any logo on them, but they were exactly the same size, shape, and button layout as these. One finally broke and the other one still works fine. They are the best! Count up or down. I especially like the fact that unlike a lot of timers, you don't have to press a minute button 45 times to time something for 45 minutes. You just enter 4-5-0-0 and start! If you have several items that require the same amount of time, you can press the start/stop button when the timer goes off and then just push it again to restart the timer for the next item. One difference with these and the older ones; the older ones had 2 sound levels and these have a choice between beeping and vibration for the alarm. 5Must have received a dudI bought two of these-one for a gift and one for myself. I sure hope the gift one works because mine doesn t work well at all. The vibrate mode works fine, but the beep mode makes a barely audible sound, and I m not hard of hearing! If I had wanted this I might as well use my old timer that got knocked off the fridge door too many times. That one is still louder than this! 1Nice, easy to use kitchen timerWe recently bought the CDN TM30 Direct Entry 2-Alarm timer based on price, features and what the reviews had to say. So far, this timer is exactly what we needed. The direct numbers make it very easy to key in the amount of time you need, the beep is quite audible, the timing is spot-on. I'd honestly give this timer 4.5 stars had it been possible as the stand isn't great and the magnet isn't quite strong enough to hang onto our fridge. Otherwise a perfect timer for us, and a good value, too.Btw, we had previously had another brand of timer with direct numbers, but we hated it *lol* and the darn thing wouldn't die. The buttons were hard to push, it was hard to hear and sometimes when you stopped it, it would turn back on and run the time all over again. So it's no wonder we're happy about this timer. So far, good good :)*UPDATE - January 16, 2019*Well, we've owned this timer since June, 2016, and despite being used daily several times and being dropped a number of times, it's still the best timer we've had. In fact, I'm ordering a second one so my husband can have one for his wood finish curing times while we have one to use in the kitchen, as well. 5CDN will replace the broken timers. If you're timer breaks. No beeping or vibrating. Just mail it it with the Amazon.com receipt to CDN, POB 10947, Portland, OR 97296-0947. They have replaced 2 for me. No problemo. Trouble is the Chinese make bad cheaply made stuff. Not CDN's fault. CDN will stand by its 5-year warranty, and this is good. I am very happy with CDN.What's best about this timer is that I just need to hit 13300 for setting for an hour and 33 minutes. Other times require me to set the hour and then hold the minute button until I reach 33. Waste of time especially when I'm sleeping. 5worst of 4 brands tested for alarm loudness and magnet strengthI bought 4 brands of timers. The most important feature to me is loud alarm and second most important is strong magnet. Sadly, this brand has neither. It is easy to set and I love that it uses std battery, but alarm is just too quiet. I have to have it right next to me to hear it so it is not good for kitchen alarm even though I am right in the next room. Can't hear it over the TV.Westbend similar in function (direct set time, etc) AND it has excellent sound and magnet. If loud alarm is important to you, do not get this one. But if you are normally in close proximity to the timer, this one works fine and sets easily. 2Nice and Simple TimerI bought this timer to replace my old CDN TM8 Digital Timer and Clock Memory Feature that I had for a couple years, but suffered one too many falls off the fridge door and finally was out for the count. I was tired of pressing and holding the "minute" and "hour" keys to set the timer, and the slider to switch from the Clock, Timer, and Count Up function ended up being more of a hassle. Plus, with a microwave and an oven clock in the kitchen, the Clock function was superfluous and unnecessary.Pros of this model:-You can type in the count-down time desired, provided it's 9 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds or below--it is NOT 10 hours like the package describes. This is great for what I use it for (baking and timing the laundry).-You can set the alarm for EITHER the vibrate alarm OR the sound alarm (thus the "2-ALARM" touted in the description), for which I'm very grateful. I couldn't tell from the description whether or not the alarm and the vibrate would occur at the same time, but thankfully...you have a choice with a sliding switch on the back of the unit.-The alarm sounds for a full minute and then ceases (like the TM8 model), so if you are indisposed it won't chime forever.-The alarm is just the right volume and chime that gets your attention but won't set the neighbor's dog barking. Although everyone has their own comfort level in this aspect, this one works for me.-The face IS steel and not plastic, which is not apparent from the product picture.-It takes AAA batteries, people!!! No hunting for funny button batteries!Cons:-You can't have the count down AND the count up going at the same time, which I will miss from my other unit. However, I was willing to give up the dual functionality for a sturdier unit with the time input and super user-friendly controls.-The vibrate function is worthless to me, and could do without if it means the unit would have a slimmer profile. Do not let this dissuade you from this model though, it has many other redeeming qualities.-The magnet on the clip is weak, and the unit is somewhat bulkier than the picture suggests so I can't keep the timer on my fridge. Do not be discouraged in this aspect...I am keeping this one on the counter to avoid the mortal fate of my previous timer, which was smaller and still succumbed to death by gravity.Overall pleased for what this unit can do and would recommend it to others. 5Broke after 3 monthsI have had this three months and it has malfunctioned. It does not display the time properly. I put in a fresh battery, but it did not help. 1
