Customer Reviews

The microwaves serves its purpose well. But that is ...The microwaves serves its purpose well. But that is really about it. The timer function is not the most intuitive, one you set the timer the display reverts back to displaying the time and requires to press the timer button again to see how much time is left. The end signal for the timer as a single, not so loud beep. I have found that I do not hear the beep unless I am in the kitchen. Also there is no quick start button, instead you have to hit the cook time button and key in the amount of time you desire, only then will the +30 sec. button add time.3I did not want to live without a microwave oven over the Holidays so I contacted AMAZON which was extremely helpful with my retu microwave worked once, then the touch screen broke the first day after one use! Never did get it to change power level - after that, clock went, and other pad controls went "ka-put". Contacted the Canopy extra protection policy I bought and they WOULD NOT take the product back until after the 30 day Amazon return policy was expired. I did not want to live without a microwave oven over the Holidays so I contacted AMAZON which was extremely helpful with my return of the oven --> I LOVE Amazon 1Still pretty new, but works great This oven heats food much faster than I expected from a 900W oven. Our old oven (manuf. in 1986) was a 1250W which took 2 minutes to heat 8 oz of water for tea; apparently it was worn out:) This one does it in 85 seconds. Some of the "quick cook" settings are almost useless, but the popcorn setting is perfect. For awhile, I was irritated because the turntable would always stop with my cup at the back of the oven with the handle turned away from me. I eventually figured out that it was because I was heating it up for 85 seconds. The turntable makes one full turn in 10 seconds, so I started setting the cup on the left side of the turntable so it will stop at the right side. A petty detail, I know, but when you put a cup in the microwave oven 10 times a day, it has an accumulative effect:) Another feature I like is that if I don't get my item out of the oven right away when it stops, the alarm will keep going off every minute or so. The oven is not very heavy, and so it would slide backward when pushing the door button. I put some rubber stick-on pads on its feet and now it stays put. 5Pretty much dead/useless after 10 mos of moderate useI bought this on Jan 11, 2015 and it has been wonky the whole time and then today (Oct 17th 2015) the 'start' button started acting up - it doesn't react when pressed unless pressed really hard in several places.Even before this development there were several times it just would not start (especially if I had just microwaved something for 10 min or so and then tried to do microwave something else right after). It's not an intuitive microwave - the normal pattern of entering data does not seem to apply. I've been using a microwave for 20+ yrs, generally don't need to get out the manual to use it.The plastic coating on the keys started to disintigrate and peel off back in July.I am a ONE person household and don't use the microwave all that much, so wear and tear was minimal and yet here I am 10 mos later buying ANOTHER microwave.2Pleasantly Surprised! I bought this for the office to heat up the occasional bag lunch. At $60.00 and 900 watts I wasn't expecting much.I had been using a 1,200 watt larger unit at the executive suites we were in until last week. It boiled 12 oz. of water in 2.75 - 3.0 minutes. Thought I would use that as a measurement for this little guy. The water boiled in 3.25 minutes (3 minutes and 15 seconds). I'm impressed. The door sounds reasonably solid when you open and close it. Additionally, unlike the Panasonic I was considering for home, the light goes on when you open the door.I'm not going to slant the Panasonic or any other brand here. For the occasional meal at work or at home, me simply melting chocolate or butter for baking and maybe reheating something, this is more than enough. 5You had one job. This microwave pretty much sucks. I read the review about how it heats uneven and I thought "maybe it's just that guy". Nope. It heats uneven. Half the food will still be cold and the other half fried, despite the fact that there is a spinning plate inside. Sometimes when you push the button, the door doesn't pop open. I guess you get what you pay for, but I feel like you should be able to get a decent microwave in 2017 without spending a lot. Apparently it's worth throwing in a few more bucks for a good one. Not the end of the world, but stinks to pay for anything at all that doesn't work well.1It is very pretty and matches my kitchen very nicelyI purchased this microwave when mine went out and it came in very quickly. It is very pretty and matches my kitchen very nicely. I have three kids who believe in microwaving everything. So it gets used all the time. I love that the popcorn button on it is absolutely perfect. Every microwave I have ever had the popcorn button either doesn't cook it long enough or burns it. For me that is a huge plus. It is very light weight and works very well. I love this product and it was a great price, especially for a single mother of three. I would definitely recommend this microwave to anyone looking for great quality and price.5the bad reviews were true I was reading the reviews and just assumed that some of the people were just being jerks about this microwave, but no, the bad reviews were true. I received this on a Saturday the package wasn't damaged and it was exactly the style I was going for. We used it 2 times and it was the loudest microwave I have ever heard. It nuked just like it was supposed to but the plastic pieces on the back were able to move which caused a loud vibration. We thought he had possibly fixed the noise just by holding our finger on the piece that was vibrating but it continued to get louder. Not the best choice of microwave. :( pretty bummed. 1Definitely do not purchase this product!!! I bought one and when it arrived it didn't work at all. They sent me another one and it worked for 2 weeks then stopped working. Now I have to go to the UPS Store and send two of these hunks of junk back. Worst purchase I have ever made from Amazon! 1Try another modelI'm very disappointed in this microwave. I wanted to get a smaller unit, so I bought this one to "try and see." I "tried and saw." The smaller size is fine for us but this is a poor design. The machine has a tinny feel and at least one serious design flaw: the outside casing completely surrounds the stop/door release button. The surface of the button is flush to the casing which means if you push it without watching what you're doing, you can easily jam your fingertips on the thin strip of surrounding casing. It also has feet that don't grip the countertop. When we set it up, we had to put a piece of textured drawer liner under it to keep it from skittering when closing the door. That works semi-well.The window for return closed two weeks ago, and now the door release has stopped working. You can push the release button and nothing happens about 75% of the time. Sometimes it will open, but the other times you have to hold the button in and pull the door with your other hand. It will open easily then (so far) but it's not convenient: and not what I bought the machine for.I use it daily a few times for heating up coffee or leftovers or melting butter. It does pretty well in that role, but I have a sense of increasing problems with this microwave and strongly suggest looking at other models.Note: I'm one of those folks who tends to like the things I buy and I don't often give bad reviews. But, this machine was a poor purchase..1DO NOT BUYPlease listen to what everyone is saying, do not buy this microwave!! Worked fine for about 6 months, had to unplug it (due to a limitation on outlets) and when I plugged it back in, the front panel was completely dead! In addition, the motor started to run continuously when plugged in. Not worth the cheap price.Even before quitting on me, I bought this model because it had the +30 seconds button, but it only works once you have already put time on the clock (whats the point??).1Get Something Else!I purchased this 14 months ago. The turntable has always made funny sounds and at times seems to struggle to rotate. Lately it takes longer and longer to heat food. The outside case gets very hot even though there is plenty of room for ventilation. Last night it made a loud pop. Something is wrong with this and now I have to replace it but not with Westinghouse. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this. UPDATE: Right after writing this review it stopped heating completely. I put it in the trash. I'm tired of ordering things that don't work.1Another disappointment - the "+30 sec"I am sorry I bought it. Very disappointing. It does not cook evenly. For example, a baked potato turns out to be burned on one side and half raw on the other side. And it is not just one defective unit. I bought two, for two levels in the house, and both microwaves have the same problem. Another disappointment - the "+30 sec". button does not start cooking, it just adds 30 second to already started cycle. That makes this button pretty much useless. Returning these two units is too much work, so I am going to put both of them in the trash.1It just dies.I purchased this March 2015. When first purchased I loved it and would have given 5 stars. Now almost 2 years later it just died. Will not turn on. I know it was a decent price but it's still just a microwave. You expect things to last at least 2 years, we didn't even hit that milestone. Although I'd would think longer than what it did. I will search more and read reviews carefully before my next purchase.1Learn from my stupidity: Do NOT buy this microwave! Microwave ovens are not something most rational adults spend a lot time thinking about. I like to think that I m a rational adult: I have no opinions, feelings or needs that pertain to any microwave oven (or any household appliance, honestly.)If you put a gun to my head and forced me to talk microwaves (this rarely happens, BTW), I might admit this: I ve bought two microwaves in as many decades. If I ever bought a third, it would have to offer what #1 & #2 brought to my kitchen:1) When I want to eat something warm-ish and I want it pronto, a microwave appliance needs to deliver. Every time. All the time.2) The array of features a microwave offers buttons for multiple heat settings, buttons that cook by weight , various defrost settings, kitchen timers is okay by me, seriously. And I promise to use my microwave keypad as God intended: by pressing the Popcorn button when appropriate, and setting the cook time according to the side-panel instructions considered optimal by the scientists behind HotPockets.3) As long as it cooks whatever I want, when I want using the three buttons I want? I m sold... I ll pay up to $100. I don t need or care about a warranty, instruction booklets or exclusive recipes that are microwave-ready.Just give me a box to reheat pizza for 8-10 years and requires zero maintenance, upkeep or service. Simple.Westinghouse, at least when it comes to this microwave, doesn t agree with the simple part... or the reliable part. Or the multi-year lifespan approach. In short: DO NOT BUY THIS MICROWAVE... unless my experience embodies what you look for in appliances:1) Less than 72 hours after plugging my new microwave in, I only used it four or five times (this is way below normal for me). Compared to the punishment of constant use my previous microwaves suffered, this Westinghouse should have had a profuse thank you preset to acknowledge my gentleness during its first couple of days.2) Around Hour 72:02, I placed the popcorn in the microwave, mostly to test how Westinghouse performed this critical basic function.3) For some reason, Pop Secret and their ilk (the powerful Big Popcorn cabal) began adding instructions on each bag a few years ago. While this was great news for the 11 people holding out until the five-step Secrets To Popping Perfect Popcorn went public, the instructions began with a sternly worded, illustration-accompanied and partially CAPITALIZED Step #1 : For best results and to avoid BURNING, SCORCHING or POSSIBLE INJURY, follow these instructions closely and follow the cooking times indicated: DO NOT USE OVEN PRESET BUTTON FOR POPCORN . 4) What??? Now, I would love to discuss this whole popcorn preset conspiracy, but I can t. Because WESTINGHOUSEdesigned, manufactured and shipped me a microwave where the oven light burned out... BURNED OUT. What, theintense stress it endured? I got to use this thing five times (around 15 minutes of microwaving)! The light inside quit???Westinghouse, did you not build this appliance with the understanding that some of us may subject your products toa period of use exceeding 15 minutes???I called Amazon, whose customer service was professional and perfect as always. They woman I spoke to from Amazon treated my darkened microwave crisis with a gentle urgency, soothing validation and sense of mission... all the Amazon things I love that they do.The Amazon rep told me she would send out a new Microwave now, and I could return the Darkened One later, no cost or effort on my part. Apologies ensued from this kind person, for a situation she neither caused nor allowed. But I had to ask. Can t you just ship me a lightbulb, and I ll screw it in? Wouldn t that be easiest? I asked. I am naive about microwave engineering. The Amazon lady explained: The manufacturer of the microwave you purchased from us, actually any microwave you buy these days online or not, the appliance isn t built in a way where it makes sense to repair something. I may have said Huhhhh? If not, I know I said this: It seems like shipping 50 pounds of microwave oven back and forth is... less efficient than sending me a lightbulb. Less work for everyone, too. Then the nice Amazon lady told me all I need to know, and why I was an idiot to buy a Westinghouse microwave (on top of Westinghouse going bankrupt because their NUCLEAR POWER PLANT division was not very good at building NUCLEAR POWERED REACTORS).Amazon lady explained: Most microwaves and appliances, or a lot of them, are put together using proprietary and patented techniques... There probably isn t a lightbulb, really. She told me that returning the microwave was a smart thing for me to do: if there was a fabrication issue that made the lights go out after 15 minutes of use, the rest of the microwave might start failing later... which would be bad if the return period had passed.I AM AN IDIOT. I decided not to return the microwave. I can heat up soup without interior lighting, I decided. This is a ridiculous reason to pack up a heavy, big appliance. It won t fail. It s a lightbulb!Guess what. Yes. I AM AN IDIOT.2
