Very sharp edges
First of all, I must say that I'm very pleased with the way my cakes come out with this pan. That being said, I was very disappointed with a dangerous design flaw. The rim of the pan has razor sharp edges. I cut my finger hand washing it. I emailed the manufacturer about this and never received a reply. So NO customer service! I'm keeping the pan because I like the results but I'll be aware of the danger when washing it.
3Quality Control Problem
I've owned two of these pans and have been quite happy with their performance. I ordered a third one to make triple layer cakes. After reading the reviews, it appears that they source from a Chinese manufacturer and an Indonesian manufacturer. The two that I've been using are apparently from the Chinese manufacturer, and they've worked just fine for me. The problem is that the new third pan that I bought is from the Indonesian manufacturer and it's not exactly the same size as the Chinese ones. (You can see by the stamp on the bottom of the pan which one is the Indonesian one (PRD-93). The Chinese one has no stamp.) I've shown in the my pictures how the Chinese one is slightly smaller than the Indonesian one and sits inside the Indonesian one by about an inch. They're all the same height, and when you stack them bottom to bottom, they look like they're the same width; however, if you put a straight edge against their sides, you can see there's about a 1-2mm gap. The finish between the two manufacturers' pans is kind of different too. The Indonesian one is more matte, and it has a thicker rolled rim. I bought the pan to make a cake tomorrow, so I won't be able to return it. I just hope they all bake the batter the same. Buyer beware! They're nice, sturdy pans but the quality is inconsistent.
3Great cake pans, annoying stickers
These 9-inch cake pans work very well. Generally they need grease and/or parchment paper like any regular cake pan, but they heat and cool quickly. The one major negative is the travesty of sticker choice that the manufacturer made. There are multiple stickers per pan, one or two of which you may remove cleanly, but you will inevitably end up with residue or at least visible marks. I also had some staining after a first bake, but that's nothing shocking.
4Seriously? "Sticker Shock"
I am basing my three star rating on one glaring fault. And it's not with the pan itself, it is with Fat Daddios. The barcode on the bottom of the pan peals right off. The maker's decal on the side of the pan peals right off.The sticker that is put on the INSIDE of the pan is held on with some industrial strength silicon type product. They just use a dab (thankfully), but it required a lot of strong scraping with my finger and thumbnail to get it mostly removed. Then some serious scrubbing with a Scotch-Bright pad and dish soap to remove the residue. The anodized finish held up great. Which is a strong attest to the resiliency of the pan's finish. But for anyone else who has a peeve with hard to remove stickers on the working side of pots and pans, this may not be the pan for you. It's certainly not for an elderly person without the strength to scrape off that adhesive they used. I have no idea what they were thinking. Why didn't they use the same type stickers they used elsewhere on the pan?
3great for instant pot
I ordered this for making Japanese cheese cake in the instant pot and it fits the 6-in-1 DUO perfectly. I spray it with oil spray before lining with parchment paper so that it does not stick. It also works well for pot-in-pot cooking when steaming sweet rice. Had it in the dishwasher a few times and, so far, no rust, or complaints.Shop around some, I have seen this item approx $3 cheaper in stores from the same brand and was quite frustrated with overpaying...
5Fantastic Baking Pan
I love Fat Daddio's pans. They are sturdy, my cakes always turn out perfectly, and they are easy to clean. I purchased this pan to use in the regular oven and in the Instant Pot. I use a parchment round on the bottom of the pan and spray it with Baker's Joy. I use a brush to evenly spread the cooking spray in the pan. Great results every time.
5My new favorites
As an avid baker, I bought three of these for one particular recipe :) They have quickly become my favorites. I've used them a few times, they clean easily (I always wash my pans by hand) Will eventually buy additional sizes . Love the height of the cake using three tiers, 6" pans!
5It works well.
I love this little pan. I got it to use in my instant pot. I sprayed it with cooking spray, added 8 eggs out of shell, a cup of water in the bottom of the insert, the trivet than the pan on top. Pressure cook 15 minutes 10 minutes natural release. Perfect eggs for egg salad
5Different Markings, Slightly Different Sizes
Disappointed in the two 9" cake pans I received. Both arrived packaged the same way, both are stamped "Fat Daddio's" but the other markings differ; one of them is stamped with "PRD - 93" below it in what seems like the same depth and using the same equipment as the tool or machine that stamped "Fat Daddio's". The other one is stamped more sharply and looks shinier, simply stamped 9" x 3" below "Fat Daddio's". I would be fine with them being stamped differently, even though it makes me nervous regarding the couple of rumors I read about some of these being manufactured with less quality control, but the real problem is that they nest COMPLETELY. These are straight-sided pans so they shouldn't nest, anyway, but the fact is that (as shown in the picture) they nest COMPLETELY. This obviously means they are inconsistently sized, which is frustrating. I didn't discover this until I went through the trouble of removing the stickers and washing them, but I'll be sending these back. I've had this issue with Fat Daddio's loaf pans, too, purchased elsewhere. The first 6 I bought nested only slightly, as I would expect; the second set did not nest at all. Very annoying to have that inconsistency and as much as I've loved other sheet pans from them I think I'm going to have to go to Magic Line for cake pans now.
1Same problem as previous review!!
I ordered 2 8X3 fat Daddio's cake pans. As you can see from the photos, one was made in Indonesia and has a PRD 83 stamp on the bottom. This pan appears to be of the high quality I was expecting. The other pan was made in China and has a different stamp on the bottom. The pan made in China also came in different wrapping and is of obvious less quality(shiny, thinner, lighter) material than the other one. (see pic) I ordered them at the same time and they arrived at the same time so I don't know how they can send 2 completely different pans as if they are the same. I'm returning the cheap quality one made in China and ordering another pan. If it's not the one made in Indonesia, unfortunately it will be going back too. :(
