Crappy design, and here's why.
OK, so here's the deal. Look closely at the picture. There are three feet that this toilet-paper holder rests on. Three rounded feet. So if you ever put this slightly off balance (i.e. when you are pulling on the roll of toilet paper in order to wipe your bum), the whole thing totters. And notice that the holder for the toilet paper roll has only a slight angle at the end, meaning that if you pull too hard on said bum-wiping toilet paper, the whole roll flies off and lands on the ground. It is NOT flimsy -- it weighs a few pounds, and certainly far more than toilet paper weighs. The problem is in the design. If it had four feet, it would not totter this way, because the weight would be distributed. If it had flat feet, it would not totter this way. But, as it is, it is impossible for it NOT to weeble and wobble, unless you use one hand to gently pull on the toilet paper, and the other hand to keep the whole thing steady. This isn't a severe hardship -- I am lucky enough to have two hands that work perfectly well, and an abundance of toilet paper. I didn't want to spend significantly more than $15 on a toilet paper holder, because seriously, who cares, I just wanted to stop keeping toilet paper on top of the tank. But this is aggressively bad design. There's a reason we don't use tripods with rounded feet for literally anything.I don't know if paying more gets you a better toilet paper stand, but I can tell you this one is thoroughly mediocre.
I'm not sure how to tell something like this before you purchase, but this darn thing almost wants to fall over every time you use it. It's top-heavy or something. My friend has a similar one without that problem. The only way I can get it to not topple over is to keep the bottom filled with the biggest rolls I can find.
Love this! It's much more compact than our previous one. I also like that it's black, hopefully rust won't show up on it (which is why we replaced our last one). We have NOT had any issues with it being unstable or the toilet paper roll slipping off (and I have a 3.5 year old). Ours doesn't wobble or anything. I am very happy with this purchase, especially for less than $20!
5Glad I bought the stand
I bought the burnished stand. I wish I bought this years ago. It would have saved me the aggravation of repeatedly asking my kids to reload an empty roll. This stand makes reloading one-handed an easy task and we have three extra rolls on stand-by. Other reviewers mentioned the stand being wobbly. We don't have that issue. It sits right by the toilet so the only way for it to tip over is if you aren't even sitting down by it or you like spinning it like the Wheel of Fortune or you have it more than two feet away. Worth every penny.
5Good, if you make some adjustments!
This works well but only if you put some weight in the bottom. I had some old hexagonal ceramic floor tiles which just fit into the unit. I put about 6 of them in there and it had enough weight that it wouldn't topple over while pulling the toilet paper off the roll. If you try and use it with a couple extra rolls of toilet paper in it, it can easily topple over. I fit the 6 tiles and two extra rolls into it.
3Very pretty and useful
I bought this after updating my bathroom- I didn't want to put hoped in the wall again to attach an New holder. I also wanted a more practical and attractive way to have extra rolls accessible. The satin metal finish works well with my other fixtures. The weight of the item seems to indicated solid construction. It looks very attractive in my bathroom and doesn't take up too much space.
5Solid, Not Tippy, Good Weight To It
I read other reviews saying that this is tippy, but I have no idea what people are doing with their toilet paper that this thing is tipping over, because it's solid. It's got a nice weight to it, the gold is a soft matte (not really a true matte, it's still rather shiny) and it sits evenly on the floor. Fits in perfectly with the rest of my gold & marble bathroom decor.
After reading the reviews on this TP holder stand, I was expecting to get a wobbly stand. I wasnt worried because my husband was going to weld a piece of heavy metal to the bottom to add weight to it. We've now had it for a week and haven't needed to add weight to it. It's sturdy when pulling the TP off, which I'm so happy about. It wiggles a little bit but not enough to justify adding weight to it. My husband and I both agree that it works perfectly. I'm going to buy a second one for my other bathroom.
5Looks nice but too light - falls over easily even when fully stocked
I bought the "Roll Stand". This is a nice looking free standing toilet paper rack. it holds up to 4 toilet paper rolls (the 4th will come up higher than the two rounded edges but it will work if you need it to) in the base and then one on the holder. The color was true to what I expected and true to the picture. There is no assembly required. I used it with the large/jumbo size charmin toilet paper and it does fit in the space between my toilet and vanity in our small bathroom. While it is convenient that you can just slip the roll of toilet paper on the dispenser that is open and don't have to mess with any fasteners, the toilet paper roll does tend to slip off as you unroll it for use. My biggest complaint though is that even when completely filled with toilet paper it is too light - it easily falls over either if very gently knocked or if you aren't careful when pulling the toilet paper off the roll. It's just plain annoying to use when you're near the end of your toilet paper pack and the base is empty.I bought this as a temporary solution since my toddler cannot reach our mounted toilet paper dispenser and I cannot either while recovering from back surgery, so it works okay for us (since it's light enough I can pick it back up with my grabber tool) and isn't worth returning. However if I bought this as a permanent fixture in our bathroom, I would return it and look for a heavier weight one.I bought this product at full price for personal use (not in exchange for a review). I like leaving reviews to help other people when making a decision. If you found this review helpful in any way, please click the "yes" button to let me know. Thank you!Updated - 6/21/2018 - We've been using this for almost two years now. It has held up and still looks like new. It still falls over every. single. day. multiple times actually. However, it also means it's light enough to move around easily like while I was potty training my toddler. So I stand by my 3 star review - the falling over is really annoying and one day I will probably replace it with a heavier one but that said we've been using it that way for 2 years and not replaced it yet...I wish I had bought a heavier one but i'm not rushing to the store to replace it either.
Unfortunately, the product looked much better in the photo than it did in person, The paint is so cheap looking--like something spray painted. Also, it came with a deep chip in the paint. I'm glad I bought this from Amazon who has a great return policy.
