    One of the coolest music boxes I own.I wouldn't say I have a huge collection of music boxes but I have about 8 or 9 and I love the way they work. After getting this as a gift I immediately fell in love with it. All tho you can't make every song ever made you can make fun songs like the Jurassic Park theme, or other awesome little melodies on this thing. Very high quality item that I can see owning for a life time.5We love it!! We LOVE this little gadget. We are a family of musicians, and thought this would be a lot of fun...and it's been fun not only for us but for our non-musical relatives as well. Very easy to make your own strips (no musical talent needed) and easy to use...you have to attach it to a hard surface for it to reverb but it comes with screws to do so (a piece of wood works) and we didn't have any of the problems other reviews have suggested with attaching it.Refills are expensive but store-bought poster board works just fine...and you can get a ton of strips off one sheet of that. 4Easier than I expectedWorks wonderfully. Made my wife a music box for our anniversary. It was pretty easy to punch the holes and everything worked out perfectly.5Tiny box of wondersThis a great thing to get if you want a fun craft project to make as a gift. The gear system is already all put together, but it s so much smaller than I thought. Not a bad thing in the slightest, you just can t make a cliche music box that girls in 90s movies have. Instead it s closer to keychain size.The music is really, definitely worth the price. The gears are made of plastic, so it doesn t feel like it will shatter in your hands, but if anything were to break it would be those gears.The sheets, where you hole punch into, are good quality (they are not gonna tear on you if lay a finger on them). But, even though they look long, you could probably only write the chorus of most songs on there. Also it has no bass notes, and the box is only tuned to major C.Otherwise it s a great gift, and you can personalize it by making your own box.5Fun to make songs in major keysIf you can write music you ll be able to figure out how to punch out songs pretty easily. There are no sharps or flats, so that s something to be mindful of. I made a few mistakes and just taped the punched holes back in! lol. This is really fun to work with. I was able to recreate my band s original songs for my bandmate as a gift.The crank squeaks a little, and it sometimes has hiccups and doesn t always start up consistently, but otherwise it s a great kit. If there are any creases in the paper, the player will trip a little, so you may be able to use an iron to flatten them; that worked for me.5Great gift! I bought this for my husband as a birthday gift and put his favorite song on it. (Tout le monde by megadeth) and he said it s one of his favorite and most unique gifts he s ever received. The actual punching out of the dots to make the song was pretty time consuming so be prepared to spend a few hours on this. 5Sturdy, not perfect, great funI've been using these Kikkerland music boxes for like 4 years or more. They are GREAT for getting started on music box hobbying. It took probably half a dozen falls on the floor from elbow height before my first one got damaged. It still plays smoothly, but two of the notes have a buzz now. So these would be great for music classrooms, not as great as a recordable instruments. Overall I've purchased 4 units of this box. I had to return 1 for an initial defect (high A and B wouldn't sound at high speed). There are some specific limitations of this design, which won't affect your ability to program most traditional kids' tunes. For example, after a given note is played, it cannot be played again until the tape has advanced a specific distance. On the included tapes, it's just short of a quarter note. But you can also ignore the timing markers, stretch out your program, and just crank a bit faster. XD4Good project gift, know your limitations!This is a cool present for your SO, sounds very nice when done right.Things to keep in mind:-Key must be in C (No sharps or flats) theres a tool on their website that is suppose to help but I didnt find it very useful since it was not in C key. I ended up getting the trial version of FL Studio for free and its super easy to transpose your track if need be (just shift the notes down key until no sharps or flats exist).-8th notes are out if on the same note! I made a song that needed and 8th at the same note and mechanism couldnt handle that function, 1/4s are good though.Keep these in mind and you're golden!4Love this music box!I've purchased this music box multiple times in the past. I love it! My sister takes commissions to make themed music boxes for people using this product. I made one for my fiancee for our fifth anniversary with our song on it. There are no sharps and flats (black keys on a piano), but you can easily adjust a song to make it sound the same with a little tweaking.I suggest making your music with Noteworthy Composer or another program first before you transcribe your music onto the sheets; they are very delicate and you can't fix any mistakes. To make an ending loop of songs, you can tape the sheet into a loop with very thin tape and they'll still go through the box. If you want to make a music box yourself, you have to drill a hole into a wood box to allow the handle to fit through the outside. Also, this music box resonates the best on a flat, hard surface, so don't be surprised if it's really low while holding it and cranking it -- play it off the edge of a counter or table to be able to hear the song the best.I love this music box and am a great fan! Have fun!5Made my mom cry, in a good way :)I loved this product! I got it for my mom s birthday because she recently rediscovered this song from her childhood that she did not know the name of previously but recently heard it in a movie. For years she was trying to find this song and finally did. I wanted to find a music box that played it but couldn t so decided to make one! This product was very well made and I just looked up how to properly punch the holes for the song and this came with more that enough music strips for one song. I also loved that it came with happy birthday because it was for my mom s birthday!5Bucking the traditional 18 note music boxThis is a great idea! It was fairly simple to punch in the song once you've composed it. A few tips: sketch it out on the paper before you punch it in, and you if you want to repeat a note, the repeat notes must be at least a beat apart - meaning, no repeat consecutive eighth notes. (Hope that makes sense - this is why the "happy" in Happy Birthday is only one syllable.) Also, it's not technically in the key of C - but who cares.I noticed on some of the reviews that people thought the screws were too short. If you want to secure it to a 1/4 inch piece of wood, drill recessed holes on the underside of the board, and screw it in from underneath.5it came used when i bought it new.my music box came used and i bought it new. all the other music strips were used and had visible markings written in pencil used by another person. im really annoyed about this.1
