Customer Reviews

A bit thin and quirkyI bought this ink thinking that it might be equal to or surpass the other Parker ink that I purchased around the same time. This was not the case. The color is rich and it dries quickly, but none of my pens seem to like it. If one pauses a bit during writing, or especially at startup, the ink flow hesitates and skips every time, even through my most reliable pen. A "scribble" off the page on a scrap is necessary to get things going, and it becomes a nuisance. I won't buy it again, and I wish I hadn't spent the money on it at all. It will work well, however in a "dunker" like a quill or Speedball.3Great Starter Ink!This is the first bottle of ink that I had ever bought to cater to my new hobby of fountain pens. After using it for 5 months, here are my thoughts on it:This ink is a great beginner ink. It behaves well and tries not to stand out too much. The blue/black is great for office settings or in school where cheap paper is the norm. The ink has a moderate amount of shading, almost no feathering or bleed through even on cheap paper. It takes a while to dry so if you are left handed, be wary. Lucky for me I am a left handed underwriter so smudging is a non issue for me. The inkwell is a great design for people who like to dip their nibs to refill their ink. I do have to admit that I am not completely blown away by this ink by any means. It is just meh but it does perform really well even though it's a "meh" color. I would however recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap starter ink looking for something that is versatile and gets the job done.4Good value, but avoid if you dont want shading with black inks.Overall, for the price, its a great value. 50ml of ink in a smartly designed bottle that looks stylish and professional on any desk, plus you get blotting paper thrown in as part of the package. I have been poking around with a bunch of different black inks, looking for the best professional and simple ones for everyday use. also, I actively avoid permanent inks, as I dont want to run the risk of staining anything at work. Lamy Black is not a very good black ink for professional use in my opinion compared to many other inks due to the fact that it has a decent amount of shading. It may be what you are looking for if you are more using it for art, since then it would be easier to shade, but if you are looking for a consistent color with your blacks, like me, then avoid this one. If you are looking for a saturated black that behaves well that has low shading, my personal suggestions are to try J. Herbin Perle Noire (a tad more expensive, very consistent color and behaves super well, at $10 / 30ml), Pilot Iroshizuku Take-sumi (expensive, but is much more consistent and shades beautifully if you use a flexible nib, at $20 / 50ml) or Noodlers Heart of Darkness (cheap and actually one of my favorite blacks, semi-permanent, $20 / 133ml).3beautiful ink and well designed bottleAbsolutely beautiful ink! I m including a quick sample to help you visualize. Nice flow, even with a low priced nib. (To be honest, the pen is an excellent everyday carry as well). I am pleased with the shape if the ink bottle. It is very well designed. Notice the center of bottle has a deeper area for easier filling especially when the ink is low.5Excellent ink, leaky bottle. The ink is exactly as advertised. When using a Lamy Safari with a Fine nib, it is a very deep blue, nearly black ink that dries with relative quickness. Personally, I use an Extra Fine, where the ink does not shine as well, drying as more of a denim blue. A touch thin for my liking, but overall a very solid ink.HOWEVER, when the package arrived, the bottle had leaked. It was still capped, but there was ink on the glass as well as the surrounding cardboard. Disappointing, and I'm not sure how much I lost, but that does not detract from the product itself. Still have to knock a star off for that though.4The people at Lamy thought of everythingThe actual ink is rich and lovely, with just the right darkness added to the blue to make it not look like your typical blue ink and flows out of the pen flawlessly. What really stands out the is the bottle: the glass has a reservoir at the bottom so that you don't have to tilt or turn it to get the last drops of ink, and on the bottom it has a plastic case that doubles as an ink wipe dispenser, for cleaning up after using. For the price point, it's a bargain.5Great first time inkI'm new to the world of fountain pens. I've always bought pens that I could use a cartridge with. When my new pen came lo & behold there was no easy pop in pre filled cartridge available. I looked for a good blue/black ink to try. This one was an attractive sway as it had the lamy name & also the paper to wipe the nib when done filling the pen. It came packaged properly with no damage or spills as others have pointed out. It was easy to fill my empty cartridge & grab a sheet to wipe it off. The blue/black ink was a very nice color. There was some bleed through in my planner with a semi thick page. It was not a reason for me to not buy this ink however. I think that was a great first starter ink & will in the future buy more colors of this brand if available.4Good, solid black ink, phenomenal ink wellWhile I like a different brand of ink better, this is still a very nice black ink. Nice deep black hue, without substantial feathering and dries reasonably fast. What sets it apart from other inks is the inkwell it comes in. The blotting paper is nice although I don't usually use it. But the shape of the inkwell is great for filling pens. It has a nice wide base so it's very stable sitting on a desk and just has a really nice look to it. In fact once it's all gone, I'll probably re-use the ink well but with the my ink preference.4Second bottle I purchased and I can't be happier. This is the second bottle that I've gotten from Lamy. I was happy with the first bottle, and I'm still happy with the second. I love having the blotting paper in case I don't have any other paper to use to clean off my fountain pen. I love how the center of the well is deeper than the rest of the bottle, allowing me to continue to refill my pen even when the bottle is running low. Vivid black ink, dries relatively quickly (it has smeared sometimes, but only because I run my fingers accidentally over the words) there aren't bits of dried ink along the lid. I have not tossed this bottle in with my backpack for fear of it leaking when I'm out. I keep it on my desk for easy access and refill. Love this product. The first bottle lasted for a year and half. It's saved me so much money on pens, one of the best investments I've made for my writing hobby.5Great for fountain pen newbies, lovely colorI am brand new to fountain pens. I just purchased my first fountain pen, a Lamy 2000 in EF, and this Lamy Turquoise ink to go with it. Coming from ballpoints/gel pens, I was nervous that I'd be waiting forever for it to dry, or that it would bleed through everything I write on or smear, but I am happy to report that I am having no real issues. So far, the only time I've seen some slight bleed through is on cheap notebook paper when I've gone over a spot more than once. Dry time was good on my Hobonichi/tomoe river paper and had very minimal ghosting on reverse pages. I love the bright color and the fact that the bottle is equipped with the paper roll underneath to wipe your pen off after filling. Makes it super easy for a beginner to not make a complete mess. The bottle comes to a point at the bottom so I assume it's easier once you are getting to the bottom of the jar to get to the remaining ink. Since this is my first ink purchase ever, I don't really have anything else to compare it to, but I am really happy with it.5
