Spontaneous Fridge Creativity
This was purchased as a gift for my 7 year old daughter's birthday. She is a bright child, but a reluctant reader. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the sheer volume of the number of words. There are more than 350 individual magnetic words. It took more than 15 minutes to "break" the sheets of words apart to be applied to our fridge. The words come with a metallic case, but we wanted the words on the fridge, where they would be visible.Within the first hour of purchase, grandpa was writing poetry. Later in the day, my daughter wrote some funny sentences. From time-to-time someone writes something witty on the fridge while noshing late-night.Pros:- Inexpensive- Many words to choose from- EducationalCons:- There are so many words it is often difficult to find what you want in a sea of words- These are small magnets that could be dangerous ingestion hazards around smaller kids (under three)
4Kids don't realize that they are learningBought this word set to put words in my house for a fun way for my 1st grader to read more. He spent time putting the words in alphabetically order on the fridge. There are many words, but a few are "missing" according to my kids. I explained that not all the words in the dictionary can be here, so some sentences can't be put together, but that are having fun with making up silly things. I got a kick out of seeing "I Love Mom" a couple weeks after they were using it. The magnets tend to be slid over the surface as opposed to being lifted and moved over, as such, the surface of the fridge has small scratches now. But if this helps make reading more fun, then it will be worth it.4Great for OT!I bought this for my son with Aspergers. He can read and he can write, but he has a problem getting the words from his mind onto paper. He took to this instantly. An added bonus, being able to see his words, he's correcting his own speech! The only problem I have is that it's missing simple words like "did". I was happy to see that it came with "n't" and "es", so you could add onto words. But my son is so funny about things, he refuses just to place a homemade word sign into the sentence. Instead, he will totally change his sentence. That is the ONLY problem I've had with the set. However, I have to give the company credit. They probably never figured on their product being used in this way. IT IS AN AMAZING TOOL FOR MY SON!!! And for that, I am completely satisfied. Now if they will create an 'additional words' kit, life would be perfect. ;o)4Nice variety of words to build sentences for 7 year old. This is better than I thought! Bought this for my 7yo who needs help with sentence structure. It's color coded to help with parts of speech. There were more tiles than I expected and took up more magnetic board (18" x 22" pictured below) than I anticipated! I don't have a front magnetic fridge so the board was key! And the pieces won't get lost under the fridge when dropped. These pieces are not meant to hold up anything, but are magnetic enough to stay on the board. Hopefully he'll have funny making some great sentences.5My daughter love to make sentences
We bought this for our 5 year old to start making sentences. Works great for what we wanted
5Barely any magnetsThe price of just under $20 for the TINY amount of small little magnetic words you get. Horrible. Even if I liked it I wouldn t keep it because I opened it and could literally not believe how empty the box is for what I paid. No thanks! These should be HALF the price2Words included in this setWhen I was choosing which sets to order, I wished there were a list of words in each. Here are the words included in this set (in alphabetical order):a (2)allalwaysamanandareasaskbigbirdboybyclimb-ddifferentdodream-ed-er-es-esteveryfamilyfastfatherflowerflyforfriendgardengetgirlglowgogoodhappyhashavehehomehowI (2)imaginein (2)-ingisitjumplikelittlelovemagicmemonkeymoremothermusicmynightof (2)playpretend-rreadriderun-s (2)sawseesheswimtalktellthatthe (2)thoughttogethertreeuswantwaswaterwewentwerewhisperwindowwishwithwonder-yyou5a must have for first grade and up!i bought this two years ago. it got a little attention but since my kids were 4 and 5, it was hardly used by them alone. on occasion we would play with them together and work on making a good silly sentence but it wasn't until this week, when i decided to put them on my fridge, that it really reached its full potental. now that they are 6 and 7, it's the perfect age for them to create their silly sentences and have them actually make sense. it encourages them to read for fun and everyone laughs in the kitchen while i'm making food.5Can't wait for my grandchild to walk in and see theseI have a full size filing cabinet against the wall with the side facing out. It's been the go to place for magnetic letters, figures, anagrams, whatever. I put them there and watch my granddaughter zoom over to it upon entering the room. She's reading now, and I know she's going to love these, as do I. Great selection of words, combinations, phrases. I love that they're color-coded for grammar: Blue for nouns, red for verbs, orange for prepositions, and green for miscellaneous extras. The colors are also a heck of a lot easier on the eyes that black on white. I wish all of these kids' sets were colored. The words came apart very easily and cleanly - they've were well cut. It took me 15 minutes to separate and group them onto the cabinet, leaving gaps for sliding the tiles out to move into place. The positioning took most of the time, plus I first had to relocate all of the anagrams to the refrigerator door. One is actually lucky to find toys of any value today at this price for this age group. I know my grandchild will get many, many hours of enjoyment playing with this, while expanding her reading skills at the same time. That's real value to me, especially at this price. I'll definitely buy more of these very soon. What a great product.5Over priced for what it isI purchased this for my classroom. The magnets come connected together in sheets and need to be carefully separated. The sheets are VERY thin and not strong magnets. They were constantly falling on the floor and would not stick flat to the board. For the quality of the product, the cost is ridiculous.1Weak magnets
Purchased these as a Christmas gift. There seem to be plenty of words/options, but the magnets won't stick to our fridge, our dishwasher or baking sheets! Or they will stick very lightly and then slide off if you touch them at all. I really don't want to have to buy the metal board that I see Magnetic Poetry is selling, but if I don't I'm left with this box of words...
3Same great product on the inside, terrible packagingI understand that the products sold on Anazon by "real companies" are trying to get rid of items not suitable for shelves ... However, when I am paying retail cost and the packaging is damaged, not cool. I can only hope that all of the words are in there, as the description lacks an exact number - the box was not sealed and the plastic case was cracked. I love MagPo and wanted to share that with my boys, and I will, but I'm not happy with the 3rd-rate packaging of a retail item at a retail price. Other than that, I'm looking forward to seeing my kids build funny sentences. This is a set full of kid-friendly words, even for my 5yo, so this will surely help his reading skills, too. Would have been 5 stars if the packaging was better.4Great nursing home activity! My Mother is in a nursing home and her hall door is magnetic. We have put the words there and all the aides and staff can rearrange them. The words are large enough she can read and participate in the rearrangement. It has helped in bringing people to interact with her. She's one of the few that is still is cognitive, so it has helped her use her mind also.5
