Customer Reviews

Cheap Chinese KnockoffWell, you get what you pay for. Stamped "MIU France" and arriving from China should be the first give away, but still could be good except for the scratches, lack of bevel, and already showing signs of corrosion, although stamped "stainless". Spend the extra and get something decent.1Do not buy if you're shopping for ATK's Best Buy: MIU France Slotted Turner Item#90011I've found the products recommended by America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Country are well-reviewed and haven't regretted anything I've bought after having a look at their equipment reviews. Until now--and that's because this is not a MIU France Item#90011 as stated. This is a "Stainless Steel BBQ Shovel" Item#FZ-920 of undetermined branding.1Mine arrive with food on it...The spatula itself is wonderful, but arrived dirty and used, with a scuffed handle. I have this brand of spatula in my kitchen currently and it s a dream for so many different dishes, beyond fish, so I give the item 5 stars, but the seller ripped me off with a dirty used item, that took 2 months to arrive.3Blade snapps off handleThese are OK turners, WHILE THEY LAST! I've snapped 2 or of these right at the handle by applying gentle pressure on the food. Substandard and/or too thin steel at this high stress point. Waste of money. I tried to contact them after the first snapped and got no reply.1Great Slotted Turner for Fish, Manageable Length and it's Stainless I searched for a new slotted flipper that was constructed of stainless steel and sturdily made so it would last more than 6 months. Nearly bought one from a local gourmet kitchen store, but the overall length was 14", which was a bit too long for comfort and ease of use. After going through what was available on Amazon, I settled for the MIU France turner. Love it, love it, love it. It's well made, the handle is riveted to stainless core and it has good balance when held in your hand. It is a great length, making it easy to move food around whether I am cooking in a saut pan, broiler pan or grill. Also a great tool used for turning burgers, small grilled sandwiches and vegies under the broiler as well as serving casserole-like dishes (lasagna, mac & cheese, etc.). 5NOT as advertised - NOT MIU France (from seller Snake Baba)I ordered the first MIU France fish turner from the same Amazon advertisement but that was from a different seller. I received the spatula in the photo on the right side. The labeling clearly cites MIU France. The spatula on the left was one of two I ordered (thinking I would receive the same quality item) more recently from seller Snake Baba. It is decidedly not MIU France and not cited as being stainless steel. The quality differences are visible too, if one zooms in (if that is possible via Amazon. I asked Amazon for a refund and the request was sent to the seller; I don't expect to hear anything from a shady seller in China. Buyer beware!1Good for stiff spatulaGave 3 stars because I was looking for a flexible fish spatula like the one I have. In all photos on the left is my Williams-Sonoma fish spatula, on right is MIU spatula.MIU spatula is easy tool clean & goes in dishwasher, wood handle won't heat, size is fine. But metal is thick so it's not flexible this makes it tough to use in frying pans because my hand has to get close to pan edges and burned myself a few times when cooking hamburgers. Not a true fish spatula. Stiff metal is good for heavy things though.WS spatula is true fish spatula with thinner flexible metal. WS one has some sort of plastic handle that scars/melts when heated. MIU is wooden so no melting which I'd prefer and was the reason I bought it.3Comparable to much more expensive models. Works amazing, cleverly angled Totally comparable to the much more expensive Wusthoff. The right angle. Super convenient. Gets under the eggs. Love it 5Handle is at same level as the bladeYes, that's clear from the picture before buying it. What I didn't realize at that time was that in a pan with edges, this doesn't allow you to use the blade to evenly press down on the cooking item (e.g., to flatten out curled-up frying bacon) with the whole blade without getting the handle and your hand dangerously close to the inside or edge of the pan. A more standard turner has an angled vertical drop from the handle to the blade that allows this, a feature I came to appreciate after buying this model. Also, I don't agree at all with some other review comments here that the blade end is sharp enough to cut with -- maybe a pancake or crepe, but not through the edge of frying bacon. It is sharper than most standard turners, but not nearly as sharp as those thin-bladed steel turners with the cheap rivets that pop out after a few months' use (hence putting one in the market for a new turner :-).Otherwise, it's stylish and solid enough. But consider whether you need that handle-to-blade drop in your applications before buying.3Rusty Regret.I bought this as a replacement for my go to plastic spatula that was showing its age. I particularly wanted a thin metal spatula for precision and durability. I soon stumbled on this turner and seeing "France" in the name and the strong positive reviews I figured this would be a good quality purchase. My expectations were soon dashed when I noticed a stain after an initial washing that appeared to be rust. The stain came off easily however, so I didn't think much of this incident, and I eagerly began using my new turner. The turner performed quite well, seemingly strong, and the tip was very fine and precise, much more so than my old thin plastic spatula. After several more dishwashings without incident, I let my turner sit in a small pot that was soaking overnight for cleaning later. The next morning, to my dismay, I discovered that the turner was COVERED in rust. Needless to say, I highly doubt the manufacturer's claims that this turner is stainless steel and have begun my search for another turner that is truly stainless steel. Very disappointed, I will never buy another MIU France product again.Save yourself the trouble and buy a different turner - this one is not stainless steel.1Loved This Spatula Until it Broke!EDITED REVIEW Feb. 17, 2015:Sadly, after two years of use, my Miu "France" (joke - it is apparently made in China) spatula broke at the end between the tines. :0(I had given it a 5 star review when purchased back in 2012. I would change that to one or two stars now due to poor performance. I am not hard on my utensils and this one was hand washed most of the time.I will purchase a Mercer's Hell's Handle next. It has excellent reviews here and elsewhere online.I still have another Miu that is ok so far and I will continue to use it - but I like to have two spatulas. The Miu worked well - while it lasted - although the handle did melt a little when I left it in a skillet. But having the SS break pretty well renders it useless unless someone out there knows how to fix it :0) For $10 it probably is not worth fixing and I cannot find any warranty info. If anyone knows if there is a warranty on the Miu spatula - let me know.I have quality cookware that has lasted over 40 years. I have a Vitamix that still works great after 40 years of use. I am used to quality and am just sorry I didn't get a better spatula to begin with. You really do get what you pay for. :0( Don't let the name Miu 'France' fool you. This is not quality as in Le Creuset or Cuisinart! If Cutco (U.S.A. made and the best I have ever had. Have had mine for over 40 years with NO complaints) made a turner similar to this one - I would buy Cutco as quick as a wink!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~OLD REVIEW -Best spatula I have ever used. Didn't think I would ever find one I liked better than my Cutco turner.I bought one for myself and then immediately purchased one for each of my children and granddaughter - who all love to cook.Great for eggs, fish, potatoes - you name it - this turner will slide right under - had a very thin edge that I love. I can even use it on one (my best) non stick pans if I am very careful. I WOULD NOT use it on a cheap non stick pan - the edge is very sharp. You can even use it to cut a toasted cheese sandwich while it is still in the pan.2... product itself (which functions very well and is a great addition to my kitchen) but for the seller This review is not for the product itself (which functions very well and is a great addition to my kitchen) but for the seller. It took a couple of weeks for this one to arrive and when it did, there were water stains and small black specks (may be food?) all over the steel portion. Since it was going to be a bother returning it, I decided to clean it thoroughly and keep it. When something is advertised as being new, it should be unused and new! 3rustsvery sad that this "stainless" spatula came out of the dishwasher with rust spots all over it. I bought what I thought was the "better" one from the list of other options to avoid rust ! yuck ! It comes off, and maybe by handwashing can be avoided, but really ?? should not be advertised as a high quality utensil.1
