Customer Reviews

A quality light from a quality company This is an awesome light, and an awesome company. How do I know it's an awesome light? Because I have it installed and I am using it.It's my main light for my pellet grill. On when I need it, off when I don't. It lights up the grilling area perfectly at night - no muss, no fuss. No worrying about batteries charging, and since it takes C-sized batteries and uses a low-current LED (that's amazingly bright!) - changing batteries won't be a daily thing. Heck, I've had it for a month, on some old batteries I found in a drawer, and it still is running strong. When I do need to change the batteries, it'll be a simple job - just rotate the light off, pop the old ones out, put the new ones in, and put the light back into place. Then keep on grillin'!How do I know it's an awesome company? Well - by their actions. You see - one guy mentioned in the comments for one of their other products how he had to modify the light's sensor to make it work better for his purpose. He posted this - and a company rep responded to his comment, and said the he had spoken to their engineers about his "hack"; instead of clamming up or becoming indignant about an "unapproved mod" - he left a comment about how to make other changes to make things better. In other words, this company is "mod friendly" - that's a real rarity in this day and age. Extreme kudos to Mr. Beams on this front.I will buy more lights from this company in the future - they've shown their quality! 5Excellent for security and convenience We have three Mr. Beams lights installed around the house...two of these and one with dual lights. We have the dual light under the eaves on our front porch for the front door, and these two on the sides of the house to illuminate the side yards.Excellent devices, very sensitive motion sensor. These single light spots are enough to illuminate the dark areas on the sides of the house, enough to be able to see if anything or anyone's out there, plenty of light for walking through the yard at night, and sensitive enough to pick up any movement from the front to the rear of the house. Very cool. The battery life is amazing...we installed the dual light in front back in February, and haven't changed the batteries yet (now November). We installed these single spots this Spring, still going strong.Overall, great lights! Definitely recommend these for indoor or outdoor...weather resistant, long life, sensitive motion detection, very good. 5Battery compartment issues I couldn't get the battery compartment door open no matter what I tried. Looked like a promising product, but it's useless unless I can open the battery compartment. There's a link in the questions that says to press the latch and that will somehow release the battery cover/door but no amount of pressing will move those two protruding tabs. I returned it. 1Battery door breaks :( I was really looking forward to using these on my front porch when they arrived today. I opened the package, and was following the directions to insert the batteries when I discovered it was INCREDIBLY difficult to open the housing. I tried pressing in the tabs while pushing up on the back (as the instructions seem to indicate will happen easily), but was still unable to do it. I finally thought I got it open, after struggling for several minutes, only to find that the tab had broken off, and now would not hold the housing closed again.People from Mr. Beams or other customers; how the heck do you get the back of the housing off? It's REALLY hard! Why did you make it like that? 2since Dec 2014 Have two, Mounted outside fully exposed, top of 10ft metal posts at my main gate to light up when I drive in at night and need to get out of my truck and unlock the lock on the gate. They have been through extreme weather conditions of all seasons snow, rain , heat and high winds. Using Procell Duracell C12 batteries . Wide range on the sensor, will light up when a vehicle passes on the road even thought the gate is 10 ft off the road. Bright white light at the source and still faint light that can be seen further up at my house that the light has been triggered. Mounted the lights due to vandalism on our new double gate . These lights are still working, and the gate has never been touched again. 5These Don't Compare Well With Their Big Brothers! I like Mr Beams stuff enough to have 5 of these spread around my front deck - I have two of these C battery ones, and three of the slightly larger units that use D batteries - I have two observations that may be helpful for other buyers, one, that these C battery units seem under-powered, even tho I'm using them in a confined space at my front door, and two, that if you intend to use rechargeables with these, my experience is that these need recharging about twice as often as do the units using D size rechargeables (I'm using the same kind of rechargeables in each type) - that seems a little strange to me, but there might be some technical reason for that - ??? Another interesting thing to me is that when, and if, I use regular batteries in either of these units, I can expect at least 3xs the life from the reg batteries than with the rechargeables - perhaps this is common knowledge, but I was surprised by that. I haven't done a cost analysis on this, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that it actually costs more to use rechargeables than to use reg batteries with these!Whatever, I do like these a lot, even tho these C units are somewhat underwhelming in my usage. I may wind up replacing them with the larger D units eventually. 4Great light with great motion detection. Very bright light! I used mine on my front porch and staircase. The batteries on my staircase have lasted over two months now. On my front porch I placed it facing the door and motion is sensed when someone steps on my porch. I used one screw and used the faceplate to attach it to the porch. You can adjust the tilt so you can place where you want the light to shine. 5Great for the area I needed light The MB302 is very nice. It is easy to install and the sensors work great. The light is bright but I wish it could of been a little bit brighter (first time buyer). For the price I am not going to complain. Maybe next time I will try the MB330.This was my first time trying out a battery operated motion light and Mr. Beams units are really cool. Well at least I think so. I plan on buying many more of their products to light up my property. The fact that I do not have to bury wire to get power to the area where I want light is great. One thing to keep in mind at least on this model is that it turns on by motion and when the motion is gone it shuts off in about 30 seconds. If you need a light to work on something outdoors that is going to stay on all the time, you might want to consider something different. Thanks for reading my review.UPDATE 1/24/2015The lights are still working great. I just wanted to give some feedback on my experience with battery life thus far. Keep in mind that it is winter here in Michigan. The copper top batteries I use are alkaline, alkaline batteries perform rather poor in colder temperatures. Alkaline batteries are engineered with a water based electrolyte. A temperature near, at, or below the freezing point can lead to reduced ion mobility which slows down the chemical reactions that provide electrical battery power. The battery in other words could perform poorly and may prematurely fail. That was probably a little more than you wanted to read and I am sorry about that.I have had the same batteries in both units for 3 months, and they both are working just like the first day that I installed them. The lights are being set off all the time whether by myself, the children, my dog. Or stray cats.So this long update concludes that the battery life for me is outstanding. Three months of heavy use, and two of those months were winter months. Batteries are still going strong. I am hoping for another 3 plus months. Thanks for reading my update. 5Very useful but do not last without rain cover I needed to have some light for my home's side walkway and I did not want to install hard-wired lights just for the path to my garbage cans. These units work very well and the battery life is very good. My first pair were attached to my fence, but lasted barely a year before the interior of the light filled with water and shorted out the circuit board. As an engineer, I was able to open one and with great care restore operation of the light and re-install it with tape around the lock seam, but in a few months water again got in and I gave up. I bought another of these and installed it under a low overhang on another part of the house and it is still working after almost two years. For the fence lights, I bought a similar dual motion light from Home Depot and installed it in December and it is still working - for how long - who knows? 3These lights are great. I bought 2 initially and have since gone ... These lights are great. I bought 2 initially and have since gone back and ordered 4 more to place around the outside of my house. They are compact and the quality is very good. I like the small size (you don't notice they are there) and the 80 lum is more than enough light for under the eve placement. I've attached a few pictures of them in use 5
