Why have I been using a knife? I should have tried using one of these things years ago. I will never cut eggs by hand again. This cuts the work down to a fraction of the time it used to take me. I cut twice, once across, once lengthwise, for coarse cut eggs for things like potato or macaroni salad, or large cut egg salad. Three cuts for the little cut squared for finer cut egg salad, cut once across, turn 1/4 turn and cut again, then turn lengthwise and cut a third time, little squares! Or just cut once either across or lengthwise for fat or long slices for salads and other garnish. 5Does Exactly What It s Designed To Do And that is to slice hard-boiled eggs either into an oval or a circle depending upon which way you position the egg in the slicer. It forms neat, uniform, thin slices. It can also be used to dice eggs. It s also easy to clean. After each use I just rinse it off and remove any residual bits of egg and that s all there is to it.I ve read some reviews that are very critical because someone used it to slice strawberries or avocados or something, and the cutting wires broke. This can be avoided by only using the slicer to slice & dice eggs. It indicates this right on the packaging and in the product description so you only have yourself to blame should you attempt to use it to slice other foods and it breaks. That s your fault, not the product s. 5Perfect egg slicer - Great price! I had a kitchen aid slicer that was a piece of you know what, so I got this one to replace it. Love, love, love it!! Fits in my hands perfectly, and slices effortlessly and washes up great right in the dishwasher! (top rack) I've got to say, so far I've never been disappointed in a OXO product. 5Top Shelf Dish Washer Safe - Maybe The packaging claims that it s dish washer safe but I m not certain that it is. The plastic sure is but I m not certain about the wires. If you wash them by hand you ll notice that once they re clean the water beads up on them which suggest a low surface energy coating. If the wires were bare metal, you would have high surface energy and water would wet the surface. I suspect the use of Teflon which will slowly get etched by the caustic solution of dishwasher detergent and hot water. So you wash it by hand. No big deal.And for what little it s worth, I purchased another brand costing twice as much and after four trips through the dishwasher wouldn t slice an egg. It would mash and crush but not slice. 4Terrible! Terrible! I normally love OXO brand which is why I bought this particular one. It does not cut all the way through! Such a shame. 1Love this egg slicer I bought this egg slicer to replace a metal one that was pitted and gross looking and I could not be happier! This one is far superior to the metal one. The part that cradles the egg is bigger and deeper so the egg stays put when you close the slicer. It even has rubber on the bottom so it doesn't slide around while using it. 5Broke- twice I have a ton of Oxo stuff so when I bought this and it broke after the first couple uses I figured it was a fluke. There's a joke in there somewhere.) I went online and read approximately 234857312 reviews looking for a replacement. And I settled on this, despite the fact it seemed terribly expensive. (It is just wires and plastic after all!)However, this is a really, really, REALLY good egg slicer. All the eggs I've tried fit. You close the slicer. BAM! perfect slices. Nothing gets stuck in the wires or where the wires meet the plastic. You don't get that annoying thing where it just can't quite cut all the way through the egg and you end up with a millimeter of it interconnected that you're trying to chop up by hand. It slices all the way through and cleanly. Speaking of cleanly, it super easy to clean. Like. Really. Easy. To. Clean.Stop reading 234857312 reviews and just buy this one. It works. It works well. It's worth the extra cash. 5Not up to usual Oxo standards Used it three times in the four months since I purchased it. I always carefully hand washed it and used as directed. Yesterday, the third time I used it, several of the metal strings just broke right off. Really disappointed. 1
