    very nice design and worth the cost Hefty and clean! This will certainly pound, flatten and tenderize meat! The edge is slightly beveled as not to cut or leave sharp edges in the meat, very nice design and worth the cost. 5Quality product This product seems to very well made and it's weight, 3-1/4 pounds, is fantastic for flattening beef, chicken and pork. We have a couple lighter weight meat pounders but the extra weight on this one and the position and diameter of the handle makes this it easier to use then the other ones we have. I'm not sure if I would buy the 4-1/2 pound one as this one seems heavy enough. I would be concerned that 4-1/2 pounds would just be too cumbersome and it would never get used. If you like quality kitchen equipment and don't mind paying the price for good equipment I would definitely recommend this tool.UPDATE: Not only is this tool great for thinning meats, it's great for making ice cream too. Well, great for peppermint stick and butterscotch ice cream, specifically for crushing the hard candies. I put the candy canes or other hard candies in two layers of freezer bags, remove the air and crush the candies with this tool. It's quicker (and cleaner) than using a hammer from the shop. 5Five Stars It works great 5Unless you're Paul Bunyan, get the 3.5# model. Much better than hammer-shaped pounders. Great for chicken piccata. The business end is about 4.9" in diameter and about .5" thick. The handle is 4.5", making the total height 5". The handle about 1.1" in diameter and is slightly indented where it joins the business end, making the pounder easy to grasp. I see it also comes in a 4.5# model but 3.5# is plenty heavy. 5Quality is Worth the Price Worth the extra money for the weight and quality of this unit, at least in my kitchen. 5Five Stars Love it. I like the heavier version, it makes quick work of any cut you throw at it. And I suspect it will last well into the next century. 5Buy this NOW!! Poc Chuc, Chicken Fried Steak, Wiener Schnitzel, Braciole await you! Seriously this thing is epic in mass and ability. It is 3.3 lbs of INOX steel and its heft is immediately apparent. It also doubles as an impromptu self-defense weapon, not joking. The pounder disc surface is absolutely flat and the handle is slightly tapered near the disc allowing you to grasp it well with your pinkie when wielding it against your veal scallopini. It is very easy to work around your meat and "pound outward" from the middle as many pounding instructions dictate. The dishwasher safe aspect is great and it outdoes hammer-type mallets by a long shot. Hammer mallets are bad. I really hate hammer-type meat mallets in hindsight now, i've owned several and they were never great. I was looking for a perpendicular-grip type mallet for a while and thought i had to resort to solid brass vintage types from Greece on Ebay, but found this modern stainless version and am so happy with it. The 1000 gram little brother of this device is probably great too for most home kitchens and its cheaper and only a little smaller. I have recently embraced pounded meat cooking and am so happy I purchased this, delicious dinners abound here!!! 5
