    LOVE IT! Why do they not just sell these ...LOVE IT! Why do they not just sell these with the pressure canner? I was babysitting my PC (new to canning) and couldn't not get the pounds to regulate. Bought one of these and I just can't believe how wonderful they are. All pressure cooker/canners should come with these and let people buy the others if they want to babysit their canner the whole time! 5Must Have Accessory for CanningThis is an inexpensive item that will make your canning process much more straightforward. No longer do we have to constantly monitor the pressure on the guage of the Presto 01781 23qt Pressure Canner, nor do we now have to constantly fiddle with the burner heat. We did 4 more batches of Albacore Tuna in 2 layers, after we got this item this week. This time(unlike last week), we were able to set the gas stove burner on about '5' and simply let this regulator do it's job of releasing the excess pressure(we were running 2 rings-10 PSI). This made the process much easier. I actually had slipped on a thin stainless washer of the same inside diameter as the rings to make sure our pressure was a little above 11 PSI for food safely. The constant pressure for the 101 minutes required was between 11.0-11.5 PSI, which is perfect for our application. I could not be happier with my purchase. Also, Amazon prime sent the item as promised within 2 business days. I wish I could give this transaction 6 stars........ :) 5The best $11 I have spent in a long time!This little gem has made pressure canning so easy! After I put this on the canner, I start doing dishes and just keep an eye on the gauge (stove is behind me). When the pressure gets close to 10lbs, I turn the heat down a notch and wait for the regulator to start rocking. Once it is rocking gently, I am able to keep doing clean up duty or start prepping the next canner load. I can hear the rocking and know that the pressure is correct. I will never pressure can without this. The best $11 I have spent in a long time!I use this with the Presto 23 Qt model # 01781 5I have zero idea how I canned without this!I have zero idea how I canned without this! It is hard for me to say that something made my life infinitely easier, yet this regulator did. It comes with 2 removable rings to help you adjust pressure. No rings keeps the canner at 5 lbs PSI. One ring keeps it at 10lbs and both rings keeps it at 15lbs.Before this, I would have to check my canner every 2-3 minutes and was constantly adjusting heat to keep the pressure steady. With this, I can bring it to pressure, turn the heat to low and walk away for longer before having to check on it. I've actually bought two others to have as back ups in case I happen to lose one and would not can without it in my Presto ever again! 5makes pressure canning easyin my opinion, this is must have for anyone with a presto pressure canner. By using this, i don't have to constantly turn the heat up or down to regulate the pressure. I set it to the desired weight by removing the top most ring (10lb) and it simply rocks back and forth maintaining the pressure that i need for canning. Once you dial the temp in just perfectly you can continue working in the kitchen without having to baby sit the canner. So happy and glad that i got this purchase. 5Easy to Use and Works as Intended-Great Purchase I purchased this removable weight pressure regulator to use it with my 23 quart Presto Pressure Canner, which came with a 15 lb pressure regulator. I like the added benefit of being able to rely on the removable weight pressure regulator versus solely on the pressure dial because the dial will ultimately need calibrating, and the regulator will not. Therefore, I find it to be a more reliable indicator. You can see it at work in the short video I uploaded. Once 10 lbs of pressure is reached, it begins to rock. Also, since my altitude generally dictates that I can items at 10 lbs, this regulator allows for that. The pressure regulator that came with my canner does not. It also comes with a 15 lb weight that is often used in higher altitudes. 5This is a must-have accessory for your Presto cannerI can hundreds of jars a year, as well as teaching some classes, and have used this gauge for about a year now as an alternative to dial gauge testing, since my local Extension offices no longer offer the service. I have a #01781 Presto 23-quart dial-gauge pressure canner (Presto 01781 23-Quart Pressure Canner and Cooker), which comes with just the 15-lb. one-piece regulator when you buy it new.I spoke with one of Presto's home economists this morning and she confirmed that you *can* safely use this three-piece weighted regulator with the 23-quart dial-gauge canner, provided you go by what the weighted gauge is telling you, NOT what the dial gauge is telling you. They do not consider it safe to use this to test or verify your dial gauge, but you may use it instead of relying on a untested dial gauge. So if you have purchased the commonly-available 23-quart dial-gauge Presto canner, but cannot find a source for local testing, this is a good option for you. Just remember to judge your pressure based on the jiggling of the weighted gauge and not based on the pressure reading you see on the dial -- the dial may be incorrect! If you have any questions about using the weighted gauge, please call Presto's free help line: 1 800 877 0441, and they can advise you.For those who are looking for more detail on how this works: this weight comes in three parts. The center piece is equivalent to 5 pounds of pressure, and there are two rings at 5 pounds each. So if you're canning at 10 pounds of pressure normally (or the 11 recommended for dial gauges), you will use the center piece with the black handle with one of the two rings on it. If you are canning at 15 pounds, you would use all three. Please remember that the guidelines for adjusting your processsing for high altitudes are different for weighted gauges than for dial gauges (since you can only go up in increments of 5 pounds with a weighted gauge), and call Presto or your local Extension office if you have any questions about how to do this safely.This is a pretty simple product, so there's not much else to say about it except that I find it easy to use and easy to clean. As others have said, it's helpful if you've had trouble keeping the pressure exactly where you want it; I find using it to be less fiddly than dealing with the dial gauge. Because I'm not fiddling with the heat on the stove as much, I can do other things around the kitchen while I'm waiting through the processing time, and be reassured that the pressure is consistent by the sound of the weighted gauge rocking rather than by constantly looking at it. If you're buying the 23-quart canner, this is one of the two accessories I consider essential -- it's worth it to spend the extra $20 or so to buy this and an extra flat rack for stacking jars. 5Order this when you buy your new Presto cooker.Kind of expensive for what it is, but a good value for what it does.What it does is: let you 'dial in' your pressure to adjust for altitude or to have some control of your cooking temperature. Without the various 5-10-15 pound options, Presto owners are stuck with their OEM supplied 15-pound regulator.I'd recommend this as an addition to your new purchase. I got one at the same time I ordered my pressure cooker and I've never used the single weight one that came with the cooker. 5Simplifies the pressure canning processMakes pressure canning way easier - I don't have to babysit the canner, watching the pressure constantly and adjusting the heat to maintain the correct pressure. With one ring on, it holds at 11 - 12 psi, just right for canning meat and low-acid foods. With no rings, it holds about 6 psi for food that doesn't have to reach 240F. 5Perfect additionWe were having problems with our gas stove regulating the pressure cooker to 11 pounds of pressure with the regulator that came with the unit... found this and it works perfectly! We are now able to keep the pressure at the 11 pounds like we need for our canning process. 5
