I lack confidence in it. It does come off ...I lack confidence in it. It does come off the roll easier than other tapes but my impression is that it is because it is less sticky overall. I had to run my hands over every applied piece of it to stick it down and assure it was holding. I am using other tape now to ship packages, reserving this tape to simply "waterproof" the shipping labels. I also got the impression that a roll of this stuff doesn't last very long. I used four rolls in about one month...not a business, just a homeowner. 2Thick Packing Tape for Shipping BoxesI use two types of tape for shipping boxes: light packing tape and thick packing tape. This is the thicker variety of tape.I mainly use this tape for reinforcement of box seams the seams that need strength so the box doesn't fall apart in shipment. I use this in conjunction with the thinner and brown Scotch Lightweight Shipping Packaging Tape, 6 pack, for secondary reinforcement of not as important seams.If you sell things on the internet, it can get pricey to get packing tape so you have to learn where to spend your money wisely, and know which tape to use for the right purpose.*** UPDATE ***It seems this new version of packing tape is fine on paper boxes, but when you put tape on tape, it doesn't stick. That's really annoying. Minus two stars. 3DO NOT BUY THIS TAPE! LOST ITS STICK!!DO NOT BUY THIS TAPE! it must have been stored in a Warehouse that is NOT temperature controlled. Only AFTER taping boxes, packing & sealing was it discovered that the tape had lost its STICK!! ALL of the boxes FELL APART!!Besides the $ spent, the results from USING it were devastating in that ALL of the boxes had to be retaped and repacked on many.GO GORILLA! & buy at your local Hardware to ensure its quality!! 1Larger core than advertised.Tape is not super sticky-- I was surprised to see it peeling off a box I just packaged (and I am a thorough packager). I pressed the tape down twice and it kept peeling up. Also, these do NOT fit the small, red or green mini-dispensers found at supply stores (see photo). Although it works okay with this type, it does not securely fit these dispensers causing you to adjust the tape often. This refill package must only be made to refill the specific dispenser pictured on the package (although I see no other refill options on amazon for the normal dispensers). The inside of the core is slightly larger than 1.5in. 3UPDATED: Defective product? Maybe not for boxes, but it can't perform acceptably for commonly used plastic mailers.UPDATE: After contacting the manufacturers customer service I was able to have new rolls shipped to me. It did take them around a month to get me the new rolls though. I highly recommend you contact them if you order this product and it doesn't work properly. The new replacement tape works, but is actually not from the same product line as the ones in this review so I can reassess this tapes quality. I was happy that they made an effort to stand by their product."Did I receive a defective product?" Was the first thing I said when I used this tape.When I buy tape I have one primary expectation. The expectation that the tape will effectively stick and not peel off. Given that this tape is labeled shipping/packaging tape I expect for it to effectively stick to common shipping materials. That is not the case! I often use bag mailers to ship items and this tape very easily peels off. This is a major issue since loose tape hanging off of a package or a package coming partially untapped could contribute to the package not arriving safely to its destination. Loose tape could contribute to a package getting caught in a conveyor during sorting at a postal office and getting ripped open. It could also result in the shipping label falling off in shipping (I tape on my shipping labels, instead of directly adhering them). In order to combat this issue I have to use substantially more tape when packaging items (at least when used on plastic mailers), which results in my packages looking much more sloppy and to me having to spend longer taping up each item I ship.In fairness this tape does seem to work better on cardboard boxes.I am very annoyed by how much extra tape I am having to use to package items compared to before because it makes my packages look more sloppy, their less secure, and because I specifically bought this tape because of its a better price per inch than the heavy duty shipping tape. The better price per inch does not make up for the significantly larger amount of tape I now have to use for shipping. I will likely have to buy a different type of tape for shipping due to this tapes unacceptable adherence properties.This tape is weaker than some other tapes I have used, but I bought it with the expectation of it being somewhat weaker than I am used to. Overall its strength I felt was acceptable for all, but heavy duty applications. I was satisfied with its strength and felt the way the tape was labeled gave consumers a reasonable expectation of tensile and tear strength. Potential buyers should also note that this tape is in small roles and should make sure it will fit any taping apparatus they might intend to use it with prior to purchase.My recommendation is to buy and use Scotch heavy shipping tape instead. I am very surprised by the large number of positive reviews this product has received. Maybe many of the reviewers use it exclusively for boxes, which it performs notably better on. The other possibility is maybe I received a defective product. I wish I could get my money back so I could use it to buy a better tape product. 1Doesn t stickThese rolls are tiny. I thought they d be standard size. But that s fine. I could use them without putting them in a tape dispenser. My problem with this tape is that it doesn t stick. I tried to use it to close a cardboard box that I am mailing and every time I d flip the box over to do the other side, the side now on the bottom would start to peel up. I did layer after layer of tape, and would run my hand across the box, and the tape would start peeling off. I don t know how this got good reviews. I usually love Scotch brand, but I don t know what to do with these 6 junky rolls. Sad :( 1STOP - these are tiny rollsThese are tiny, baby, petite, rolls. Perfect if you are an Oompa Loompa, but otherwise a complete waste of time. Check out the customer images here to see just how small they are. 2Unreliable product, did not stay stuck to boxesDoes not stick reliably. Used for boxes when moving. Most of it came off the boxes unless applied VERY, VERY firmly and with a lot of friction. And even then, after being exposed to the slightest bit of dampness in the garage on a cool, humid day coming loose from the boxes where not pressed on the ground or against other boxes or bins.I have been a devout 3M user for years, but this tape is garbage. Whether it s just old or had something wrong in manufacturing, I don t know. All I know is, when I bought a 6-pack of tape refills and didn t have time to monkey with NOT sticky tape, I could not depend on the product I bought. I had to buy some tape from the little yellow water fowl brand to use instead. And THAT stuff works GREAT! I d recommend that brand over 3M, at this point based on this experience and some past experiences with not-very-sticky tape from 3M. 2My bad......I bought this product because of the quiet release. The noise of tape spreading drives my hubby crazy. And we do a bit of shipping. All is perfect, except the size. These are small rolls. The seller didn't deceive me, I just didn't read thoroughly. These have a 1.5" core......the usual tape is 3" core. I had to buy a dispenser for these small rolls. I really thought I had a good deal when buying these. As I said, "My bad". 4MISLEADING DESCIPTION ON LENGTH. NOT 900" EACH. It is 900" all total.It states that they are 900 inches long, but they are not. All total, with all 6 packs, there are 900 inches. SUPER MISLEADING WHEN YOU SAY 900" I EXPECTED EACH ROLL TO BE THAT BIG. I do a ton of shipping using huge Tape Guns and other Dispensers. This is way too small for the description you are using to describe this Tape. 1
