Way better than the wire egg slicers that break the third ...Contrary to other posts that you can't slice an egg . . . you can. You just have to do it slowly so that it cuts and doesn't squish. Wash it right away. Food bits do get caught in the blade crevices. Way better than the wire egg slicers that break the third time you use them!5Broken too soon!!I loved how sturdy and easy this was to use. But one of the blades just fell out and I've only been using it for about 4 months. Very disappointed! Maybe it's just this one but it was expensive to break so soon!2Very handy - too narrowI like that this item is stainless and easy to use. It cuts mushrooms and strawberries well. I wish it were a little wider. I had a similar tool from another company that had two more blades (same spacing between blades), and so could handle larger mushrooms or strawberries. This one is so limited in the size of what it can cut that I often find I have the extra step of cutting the strawberries or mushrooms in half so they'll fit. Otherwise, it's just fine.4Blades fall out...Purchased this item 5 weeks ago, 6 of the blades have fallen out of the slicer. I was hoping it would be a great kitchen gadget. But, I ended up throwing it away.1Doesn't slice well!We bought this for slicing eggs and mushrooms. We had a wire slicer before that worked great for eggs, but broke when we used it on mushrooms. So we needed something new and had high hopes for this slicer.It didn't cut thru the mushrooms too well -- they got squished in the process. The eggs were sliced fine, except that they then stuck to the tool and we had to peel the pieces off. Not easy to use. And hard to clean. It looks so well-made, but this doesn't work for our purposes.1Body appears to be cast aluminum. Blade closure device slips off easily and can easily be misplaced/lostI haven't used this product yet but am taking two stars off my review because the frame appears to be cast aluminum which looks kind of funky & I was expecting from the description that it would be completely made out of stainless steel. There is also a small rectangular plastic retainer part that must be slipped over the handle to keep it closed and it slips off easily which has resulted in my finding it sprung open twice already while I was shuffling things around in my gadget draw. This drawback makes it easy to cut yourself with it if not careful, the small plastic retainer is easily misplaced or lost and a more definitive locking mechanism, that is integrated into the device would be a significant improvement to the design.3Perfect.I've used this almost every day since I got it. It works great with hard boiled eggs. I have not yet tried it for slicing strawberries or kiwis or other soft fruits and items. It is sturdy and the blades are extremely sharp. The design of it gives you more control over the slicing than the typical slicers do, from my experience anyway, although I usually bought the cheaper type of slicers. Yes, this costs a bit more but it is a quality product that I suspect will last for years. And there is not one bit of plastic on it! Another plus.Some reviewers have complained that it is not large enough for slicing a large egg without part of that egg, the top part, being squished rather than slices. Egg sizes vary even within a package, but there is some validity to that complaint. However, I have found that all you need to do to prevent that from happening is to position the egg closest to the inner edge of the upper cutting blades, rather than situating it on the lower part. That is, slightly shift the egg back using the upper blade part to position the egg, rather the lower part. The other trick is to slowly squeeze the parts together. Even with the largest eggs, I haven't had the 'squish' problem to any great extent.Cleaning is simple with a quick rinse and a little toothbrush action on the blades, gently pat with paper towels and set aside to air dry.Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. It is the only egg slicer I will need for a long time.5Misrepresented product. It's aluminum with stainless blades. Get the other one for $12 (same one).There were two listed "by westmark". This one which claims to be a "Stainless Steel Multipurpose Slicer" for $20, and the other which says "aluminum mushroom slicer" for $12. I wanted the higher quality stainless steel one so ordered that. Only to find out THEY'RE THE EXACT SAME. They're aluminum, with only stainless steel blades. Misrepresentation.2SHARPI knew it was sharp, it said so on the description, but, a piece of egg got stuck and I couldn't stop my finger from trying to dislodge it. My macaroni salad got a lot more protein than I had planned.I am not worried about breaking it when I slice something, but it does have a tendency to go off center, so you have to be careful. It could be a little bit wider to fit big eggs better. But otherwise it does the job.4This looks pretty basic, but it is really versatileThis looks pretty basic, but it is really versatile. With one quick, easy compression it evenly and cleanly slices hard-boiled eggs, strawberries and mushrooms. It is lightweight and very well made. Dishwasher safe, but attention to brushing out the ridges on the bottom portion will help keep it clean, as some food particles may get stuck in the narrow ridges. Delivery service was excellent and it represents a good value, as it seems to be virtually indestructible. This slicer is one of my favorites in the kitchen!5
